Causes: Human Services, Young Mens or Womens Associations
Mission: Founded in 1892, YWCA Southeast Wisconsin is a human service organization and part of YWCA National which is movement of women from diverse backgrounds and faiths, of different ages and experiences, committed to the empowerment of women with one imperative - to eliminate racism.
Programs: More than 3,200 individual community members accessed the opportunity advancement center (oac) in 2016. Through the oac, community members have access to telephones, internet ready computers, and trained staff to assist them with job search, application, and preparation for interviews. Community members used over 10,000 services during their 9,643 visits. Our ways to work program came to a close in 2016 with five auto loans repaid and 13 new loans opened and remaining under case manager. 2016 also saw the launch of personal financial management (pfm) which includes financial education, affordable auto loans, and ongoing case management for budgeting and loan repayment. Over 1,400 community members turned to the community adult learning lab to further their education. The lab offers services to assist community members in increasing their educational attainment levels through basic literacy, ged, hsed programming and offers testing in a variety of specialized program areas, 57 community members successfully obtained their ged and 45 community members received their hsed.
2,975 community members including adults and youth engaged in our racial justice programming. The racial justice programming addresses racism in our community through a six-part unlearning racism series, one day seminars, consulting, and advocacy efforts for adults. For youth, we offer one day topic discussions in milwaukee area schools and a week-long social justice and leadership camp. Dress for success racine offers comprehensive employment services including appropriate interview and employment clothing, interview prep, application assistance and professional women's groups to under and unemployed females. The program served 509 women in 2016 with 49% of survey respondents gaining employment at an average wage of 10. 66/hour.
80 individuals (23 adults and 57 children) were provided housing and intensive supportive services (case management, counseling, employment search assistance, group therapy, recreational programs, etc. ) through our transitional housing program. 100% of program graduates were placed in permanent housing.
