Programs: The ymca of portsmouth makes accessible the support and opportunities that empower people and communities to learn, grow and thrive. Our scholarship program, funded by our annual strong kids campaign and united way allocations, allows members of our community to participate in programs & obtain memberships they might not otherwise be able to afford. In 2016, we provided financial support to 3,734 participants in youth, aquatics, & membership programs. With a focus of youth development, healthy living and social responsiblity. The y nurtures the potential of every youth and teen, improves the community's health and well-being, and provides opportunities to give back and support neighbors.

the portsmouth ymca before & after school program provides a needed service to many families in our area. In 2016, we provided care & financial assistance to children for families in need. We provide homework assistance & specialized reading and science tutoring. Our program focuses on promoting physical activities in the effort to provide children with more time spent being active. They are able to be part of special interest clubs such as: fit kids, healthy cooking, swim club, and other active focus groups. At the heart of all our activities is a commitment to the ymca's core values of caring, honesty, respect, & responsiblity. In this commitment we are preparing children to become our future leaders.

the ymca day camp program makes a commitment to provide quality programs for children, one of these programs is the summer day camp. During this time we focus on keeping the children involved in their continuation of learning life skills. They are engaged throughout the summer program in swimming lessons, reading enhancement & music activities. Children learn the importance of being physically active & choosing healthy alternatives to nutrition. Specialized tutoring in reading & science is also available to all. We offer a wide variety of activities with a commitment to the ymca's core values of caring, honesty, respect, & responsibility. In this commitment we are preparing children to become our future community leaders. In 2016, we served individuals with program registrations and provided financial assistance for enrollment and aquatics for families in need.
