Programs: Healthy living: the ymca of memphis & the mid-south engaged in our cause of strengthening community this year by assisting 65,538 members in their health and wellness journey within our ymca facilities. Our health innovations programming brought chronic illness edcuation to over 240 families in the mid-south on topics such as diabetes prevention, blood pressure management, cancer recovery and childhood weight management. We provided instruction in the life-saving skill of swim lessons to 2267 youth and taught an additional 1022 our safety around water curriculum.
youth development: we believe that all kids deserve the opportunity to discover who they really are and what they can achieve. We provided a safe place for 1012 children to learn, grow, and thrive in our before and after school program. Over 500 middle school and high school students learned the importance of civic engagement through our youth and government and model un programs. Another 2017 teens acquired vital skills in our leaders and achievers programs. Our ycap program engaged 87 households with at-risk students in activities that promote positive self-worth, goal-setting, improved behaviors, satisfactory academic performance, community service and summer reading. In the fight against childhood hunger, we served over 400,000 meals/snacks throughout the mid-south under the umbrella of the federally funded usda food program.
youth sports & summer day camp: youth involved with these ymca programs are cultivating the values, skills and relationships that lead to positive behaviors and better health. Our youth sports and specialty camp programs lead 2154 youth to explore and improve sports skills, problem solving abilities, and increase creativity. Over 2500 summer day campers experienced their best summer ever at the ymca. With activities ranging from swimming, to reading, sports and games to stem we provide an environment where each camper can explore, learn, and make friends. This year camp also included healthy lunch options for every camper.
