Mission: The hastings family ymca puts christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirits, minds, and bodies for all.
Programs: Health and well being for all: at a time when 17% of all children and 35% of all adults are classified as obese, an organization like the hastings ymca, which reaches 1/3 of our population directly and many more indirectly, is extremely important for the community. In an area of the state that boasts the highest rate of childhood obesity, transforming a culture of well being that focuses on the holistic development of spirit, body, and mind is beneficial for the community. Men, women, and children of all ages, faiths, backgrounds, abilities, and income levels improve health and well being at the hastings ymca. In 2017 we provided subsidized access to low income children and families to overcome economic barriers for participation. The hastings ymca is the community center that welcomes everyone in our community.
holistic development of children and youth: recently, the new england journal of medicine cited that for the first time ever, this generation of kids may live less healthy and shorter lives than their parents. Every day, the hastings ymca helps young people deepen positive values, their commitment to service, and their motivation to learn. The programs at the hastings ymca offer a range of experiences that enrich a child's cognitive, social, physical and emotional growth. In a community where more than 61% of our youth are eligible for public school free or reduced lunches, subsidies and financial assistance are an important part of making sure everyone has the opportunity to participate. We believe that the programs and services we offer are developmentally significant, as well as affordable to all.
