Mission: Yama's mission is to foster the essential cognitive and social skill development of yakima valley children through individual and ensemble-based music training and performance, and to promote means and opportunities for their continuing music education.
Programs: Yama utilizes a rigorous daily model of ensemble-based music education, with a dual emphasis on musical literacy and active community-building, in neighborhoods with greatest barriers to accessing high-quality after-school opportunities. With almost 100 participating students between ages 8 and 16 learning daily at two sites, yama develops skills to facilitate the academic and social successes of at-promise youth, particularly by providing pathways to college, and actively engages their families in the process.
