I was wounded in Iraq in 2007 and spent the next decade plus angry, addicted, and disconnected. After getting clean and going through a lot of therapy, I have been growing and getting my life back. I went on WWIA’s event in Bayfield county Wisconsin in October 2021 and experienced Camaraderie again with fellow service members that I’ve been missing. Chris and his crew of guides and volunteers was so friendly and accommodating and the setting was beautiful. Thank you WWIA for helping me make some great friends and find joy in the outdoors again!

My local VFW Post 8726, located in the Finger Lakes region of New York, just hosted the annual Wounded Warriors in Action (WWIA) Foundation - Whitetail Deer Hunt for the sixth consecutive year. Our own generous VFW Vietnam veteran hosted the Purple Hearts at his private residence with WWIA Purple Heart guide Dan Berryman, and our VFW Commander, and other VFW officer.

Everyone was able to relax and comfortably sit with each other to discuss life, share valuable information about medical and mental health care, other Purple Heart support organizations they have interacted with, and positive turning points in their lives after they received their Purple Heart.

In 2003, I was active-duty Army when I was deployed to Iraq. Volunteering my time to support organizations like my local VFW and WWIA is a wonderful way to stay connected with fellow vets. During this event, I volunteered to help at the house and was able to see firsthand how organizations like the WWIA provide therapeutic support through sporting events.

When I called the WWIA to provide positive feedback from my personal experience supporting the event, I became emotional. I did not expect it to impact me the way it did, and believe it was a moving and memorable experience for all our VFW and Auxiliary members that provided support.

I highly encourage anyone thinking of applying as a Purple Heart for a WWIA event, or to be a part of the event by supporting as a sponsor, host, or donor to DO IT! It is a positive and life-changing experience for all involved!

Words can not express the excitement, joy, peace, and gratitude I feel after joining Wounded Warriors In Action for an event in Northern Wisconsin. The hosts Danny and Nancy welcomed us veterans into their home and treated us like family. Their uncommon kindness knows no bounds. The staff at WWIAF provided professional and compassionate support through out the event. And finally the community of guides, hunters, and veterans treated us like neighbors. Their generosity in donating time, harvest tags, fuel, and everything else that goes into a successful hunt was beyond compare.

Healing is a process that needs the right environment to happen. A Wounded Warriors In Action event provides that environment. The connections made are genuine. The healing is deep and lasting. The time in the woods not only heals the mind, but body and soul as well. As a participant I can not overstate the positive impact of joining other veterans on this experience. Thank you WWIAF, thank you Dan and Nancy, and everyone involved.

I’ve been working with this organization as an associate for 6 years now. I cannot begin to express the absolute joy I get to see on the heroes faces when they harvest their first animal or catch their first fish while on a trip with WWIAF. The camaraderie and healing powers of nature and hunting are only surpassed by the event hosts, guides, and local communities love and support for these heroes. I hope I get to continue to work with this organization for as long as possible to guide other heroes on these amazing events

I was transitioning from active duty to civilian life and needed an outlet and hobby to keep me preoccupied… the outdoors and hunting called to me. I was flown out by WWIA to wisconsin for a fishing and hunting event and met up with fellow Purple Heart veterans and an amazing community who reaffirmed my love for the out doors and provided me with lifelong friends and a means to cope with my experiences overseas!

The local community has been a host for a WWIAF event for 6 years. The support and encouragement that we get is top notch. All the Guides that are sent to help support the event are professional and fun to have around. I cant say enough about this organization, they help our community feel like we are giving back to those who gave so much.

This past weekend I was able to have one of the greatest experiences of my life thanks to Wounded Warriors In Action. They flew me out and put me up Saltgrass Outdoors. The hospitality that I felt from everyone that works there was amazing. Also a big thank you to the boat captains, Ike and Chief, who volunteered their time to take us veterans out. I caught a bunch of fish, ate great food, and had amazing conversations with other veterans.

When it comes to giving back to those who have given so much, few organizations shine as brightly as the Wounded Warriors in Action. WWIA is dedicated to providing wounded veterans with an unforgettable, once-in-a-lifetime fishing trip. The profound impact of this initiative on the lives of our nation's heroes is beyond measure, offering them not only a chance to reconnect with nature but also a space to heal, bond, and rediscover a sense of peace.

One of the most commendable aspects of the host's involvement is his willingness to open his home to the veterans. This gesture of hospitality transforms the trip from a mere excursion into a deeply personal and transformative journey. The veterans are not just guests; they become part of a family. The home provides a sanctuary where they can relax, share stories, and form lasting bonds with their fellow warriors and the host himself.

The impact of these trips extends far beyond the days spent on the water or in the fields. Veterans leave with not only incredible memories but also a renewed sense of purpose and hope. The bonds formed with the host and fellow participants lead to lifelong friendships and a supportive network that continues to provide strength long after the trip has ended.

Wounded Warriors in Action stands out as a beacon of kindness and generosity. The organization and host's unwavering commitment to assisting veterans, coupled with exceptional hospitality, creates a powerful and transformative experience for all involved. WWIA exemplifies the very best of what it means to honor and support our wounded warriors, providing them with not just a fishing or hunting trip, but a lifeline of healing, hope, and heartfelt connection.

This Alaskan trip we had an Outstanding host ( John Moline) his boat crew was outstanding as well and a terrific guide ( James Rissler), and other instructor (West) who taught us how to snag for Salmon,Great guy. My overall experience on this Alaskan fishing trip was the best trip ever and we an amazing group of guys on this trip. I first learned of WWIA last year and attended a fundraiser event where I met the founder, John. I knew the moment I met him that this was a passion and the mission was extremely important to him. I joined the WWIA because of that meeting and the understanding I walked away with.

This year, I was fortunate to attend an event where WWIA hosted 6 wounded vets in Alaska. This trip was much needed and very much appreciated, but it also showed me at a different level just how devoted the WWIA group is in giving back and providing opportunities for wounded vets. The communication, the support, and the overall experience was amazing. I will continue to support the WWIA mission and if provided the opportunity, will continue to give back to my fellow wounded vets, as a bigger part of the WWIA.

If you have not, please check out the WWIA, it is a group of great people supporting wounded vets, and providing opportunities for adventure, support, and fellowship.

What an amazing organization. I can’t express the gratitude I have for being picked to attend the trip. The hosts for the South Dakota antelope archery hunt were awesome. Even though it was the first year doing this hunt, it was like they had been doing it for years. Brad Nelson and Crystal Masek took care of everything that was needed and then some. They went above and beyond in my book. I am so grateful to have met and got to know them as well as all the people that helped and attended this event. I will cherish this forever.

I joined Wounded Warriors In Action Foundation after a chance encounter with the founder in the parking lot of Gander Mountian. From my very first encounter, up until now, I have been welcomed with open arms and have felt appreciated and valued. I recently had the opportunity to participate in an incredible black bear hunt experience in New Hampshire. WWIAF's commitment to supporting veterans is truly exceptional. From the well-planned logistics to the camaraderie among fellow veterans, everything was top-notch.

What sets Wounded Warriors in Action apart is how you treat us like family. Throughout the entire trip, I felt a sense of belonging and support that's hard to put into words.

The hunt itself was both challenging and exhilarating, set against the backdrop of New Hampshire's stunning wilderness. This experience has enriched my life in countless ways, and I'm honored to have been a part of it.

WWIAF creates unique, unforgettable memories and continued support for Purple Heart recipients that is unmatched by any organization and I'm grateful to be a part of the family.

This was an awesome trip. The pre-planning, the pick up at the airport, the expectations as far as what items and clothes were needed all made everything run smoothly. It was easy to relax and enjoy the trip.
The people and guides all had similar experiences in the service so everyone understood what you were talking about. Only a veteran can talk to another veteran and understand!
The Saltgrass Resort on the Mississippi River was first class. It was just what was needed after fishing all day! Every meal was 5-Star and delicious. The Guides and Boat Captains were very knowledgeable and patient. They were right there to teach the right way to cast for the area we were fishing and they knew where to find just the right spot to cast. They were there to bait the line, if needed. They were there to help take the catch off the line, if needed. And the fishing was great!! And we caught a huge variety and number of fish.
When we got back to the lodge, the fish were cleaned and flash frozen so each of us could take home a big cooler of our bounty!!
It was great to relax and talk with people who care and who understand what you have been through because we All have been there. I’m so grateful I was given such an amazing opportunity and got to meet and make new friends!

From the WWIA staff that took care of transportation, fishing licenses and communications everything in this adventure was top notch.
The members of American Legion post 103 providing an honor guard, parade and dinner set the tone for the people of Ashtabula. My boat captains Bill and Diane Miller their crew and the other boat crews displayed theirs knowledge and generosity in assisting we their quest in catching over 350 walleye.
The cooking crew went out of their way to feed us.
On top of all that they brought me together with my fellow Veterans and allowed us to relive other times in a safe and comfortable setting.
Thank you WWIA Lake Erie event providers.

Wounded Warriors In Action Foundation. Sent me on a fishing trip to Saltgrass Lodge in Southern Louisiana for the weekend. This trip was more than just a fishing trip. The weekend was an experience! As a Combat Wounded Veteran it is hard to enjoy things with other people, as your ability to feel relaxed in different environments and social settings is compromised. WWIA facilitates combat wounded veterans an opportunity to go on an adventure with other veterans that have the same types of disabilities.
Traveling to the event was very stressful to me, but upon arrival to Saltgrass Lodge, and meeting the other veterans the stess and apprehension immediately started to disappear and the more we all talked to each other a sense of comradè developed. The staff and owner of Saltgrass Outdoors where very professional, friendly, and accommodating. We had a very good fishing experience, catching really good sized redfish and several other species of fish. I had such a good time I would have stayed a whole month if I could have. Thank you WWIA and Saltgrass Outdoors Lodge for the Adventure and friendships that were made.

WWIA brought in four Purple Hear veterans to Rothschild, WI from all over the US for their annual WI Cast & Blast. These Warriors were able to shoot their first turkeys, catch their first walleyes, turn wood for their first time, relax and bond with both fellow veterans and the local community. The WWIA is so much more than hunting and fishing -it's the friendships, increased passion for the outdoors and an environment to relax that greatly promotes better living for these Warriors. The organization of this WWIA event is impeccable and fosters a first class environment to provide for the needs of our combat wounded veterans. Well done!

BEST NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION IN USA TODAY.
My recent May.2023.fishing trip to Ohio, allowed me to experience firsthand, the dedication, sacrifices by the many volunteers .
Professionalism at it best, defines these true Heroes.
As combat Vietnam veteran, the bonding with other Purple heart veterans was heartfelt.
EVERYTHING was offered to make us vets feel SPECIAL.ALL NEEDS WERE MET AND BEYOND.
Airfare,rooms ,food,fishing license, boats,fishing rods, reels.etc.

But the compassion ,sharing was gratefully appreciated. Memories were made, bonds of brother hood made.I returned from Vietnam made to feel like criminal. These terrific patriots
Opened their arms ,hearts, homes to allow us to help heal the emotional scars from combat.

As explained to me by the many volunteers, this program is a year long commitment. No sacrifice is to great, their total reason for doing this is;THEY JUST WANT LET EACH OF US KNOW SOME CARE.

IM PROUD TO SAY WOUNDED WARRIORS IN ACTION (WWIA) .IS THE PREMIER NON PROFIT ORGANIZATION TODAY .

IM NO HERO BUT WWIA LET ME SHARE HOW HEROES ARE TREATED.

THANK YOU WWIA FOR YOUR SACRIFICES, A LIFE LONG brotherhood was made possible because of your splendid ORGANIZATION.

I had the privilege of helping to co-host an event put on by Capt. Raymond Schmitt, the host and owner of Salt Grass Outdoors in Buras, LA. Four Warriors enjoyed three nights in a Five Star Lodge and two day of fishing the bountiful waters surrounding Venice, LA.
The gourmet meals served, reflected the Creole- Cajun inspired dishes of South Louisiana and we’re meticulously prepared by the culinary talents of the Salt Grass chef.
The Warriors spent two days of fishing on 24’ bay boats specifically outfitted to navigate and fish the Louisiana Marsh. Species of fish targeted were Red Drum (Red Fish), Spotted Sea Trout (Specled Trout), Flounder, Sheephead, and Black Drum.
Everyone had a wonderful time, lots of fish were caught, the accommodations were outstanding and the food was beyond comparison.
And last, but not least, was the fellowship and camaraderie that was shared and confirmed by everyone involved in the event. When the goodbyes were being said, they went beyond that of “newfound friends” to that of “newfound family members”!

I recently attended an event with the W.W.I.A. Foundation in Ashtabula, Ohio along with 9 other Purple Heart recipients from around the country for a Walleye fishing trip that was simply amazing.
The organization staff and volunteers and local boat captains went overboard (no pun intended) to assure us of a great time
They were AMAZING to say the least
The fishing was unbelievable and we went home with some delicious fish for our families.
The stories around the campfires, on the boats and chow tent we're emotional and heart warming.
I can't say enough and thank the Organization enough for the countless time and effort and sacrifices they put in to making sure our trip was a success and GREAT time.
Thanks again to the W.W.I.A. Foundation.

What a wonderful experience that I will never forget. This is the first time in over fifty years that I felt and experienced any recognition and support after returning from Vietnam in 1971. This was also the first time I had sincere and meaningful conversation with other veterans that I could relate to. It was very emotional for me as the entire event unfolded. I sat in the car weeping as we were escorted to the VFW for dinner on the first night. What a reception from the motorcycle escort, the fire and police, the honor guard/VFW, and the people that stood by the roadway waving flags. I am getting emotional as I write this review. Thank you so much for every thing you do!! It is greatly appreciated.

WWIA Lake Erie Fishing--

What made this trip special was the community involvement. As a Vietnam vet, I never had a welcome home parade. The parade was beyond my expectations. It started out with the rumbling roar of the bikers. The rumbling noise reminds me of assault helicopters coming in to provide support. The parade route was through town where the streets were lined with flag waving people.

They brought us to the American Legion for an awesome steak dinner. We walked into the dining hall through a 40-foot long line, double sided salute from the legion members.

Nothing in my heart could top that experience.

In two days I reeled in 20 walleye. Not even being a little kid in a candy store unleashed could compare to the experience.

We travel a lot in our RV following the BBQ diners. Our event was capped off by a final meal of all types of smoked meats (pulled pork, chicken, ribs and brisket).

I can't even remember getting the amount of hugs I received in the last two days.

Being a Vietnam vet, it was awesome to share with these 30-year old vets what they have to look forward to as they age.

Without the continuous support of family, I wouldn't be able to attend this event. Including my wife who helps me get dressed.

What an amazing weekend. I cannot put into words how amazing this past weekend was. From the moment that I met the host at the Bass pro shop in Columbia, MO until we parted ways from Thunderbird Ranch just outside of Cairo, MO it was a truly humbling and amazing experience. I have to say the red carpet was truly rolled out for the Wounded Warriors that attended this event. The men and women that hosted this event were busy the entire time ensuring that nothing fell short of an awesome and amazing time. I will forever cherish the memories that were made at this event as well as the friendships that were established. Getting into the woods and spending time with the guide is nothing that I will forget anytime soon nor the camaraderie with the other warriors. It truly was a great time.

Thank you for a great weekend at the Thunderbird Ranch in the great outdoors. It was awesome to be back in the woods again and the bonus was getting to harvest a bird. An awesome bird. One that we had to work for and what a great show he put on for us once we got him into the area the blind was set up in. A story to tell over and over again. It was easy to let my guard down and enjoy my trip when being with Vets that have been through the same things I’ve been through. We all shared something other than serving and that in itself brought us all together for a great event. The hosts were amazing and made sure our weekend hunt was one to remember! What can I say about WWIA other than this organization is amazing and a true gift to Warriors that were wounded in action. Any time I’m having a bad day I can look back at this event and smile on, Thank You WWIA!

This organization is absolutely amazing. Their dedication and desire to serve our nations wounded warriors by sending them on hunting and fishing adventures is a credit to the organizations founder John McDaniel and his wonderful staff that make these events so wonderful.
I was wounded in Iraq in 2006 when a roadside bomb went off under my vehicle. I was medically retired in 2015 and I was looking for someway to reconnect with nature. WWIA allowed me to do that and have sent me on some amazing events. I am truly grateful that this organization has assisted me in reconnecting and recovering with other wounded warriors who faced similar challenges in their own recovery. I highly recommend joining this organization if you’re a wounded veteran from any era.

I am so thankful to have been invited to the 2020 Lake Erie walleye fishing event! It could not have happened at a better time.
This year has been a roller coaster for us all and the past four days have given me the “shot in the arm” that I needed to adjust fire.
The “Team Erie” volunteers and staff were incredible. The local community showed support above & beyond anything I have yet experienced.
I can’t thank you enough!

I absolutely experienced the trip of a lifetime when I attended the Wounded Warriors in Action Foundation Inc's 7th Annual Halibut Fishing Trip. I was offered the opportunity to attend and once I had my spot booked, Corrina and Derek kept in great contact over the next three months easing any anxieties I had about traveling as well as keeping me up to date about changes in travel or travel policies. Once I arrived I was with a great group of warriors who all hit it off from the very beginning. Derek, the WWIA guide, was very knowledgeable and friendly as well as the vendors they used. We had the opportunity to do some amazing fishing, sight see and spot wild life, as well as retreat to the bed and breakfast we stayed at the end of the day for some great conversation and bonding before we turned in for the night. This trip and this organization far exceeded any expectations I had. Like I said, this was absolutely the trip of a lifetime and I will be forever grateful for the opportunity and experience. Donate early and donate often to Wounded Warriors in Action Foundation Inc. They are changing veterans' lives with their amazing events and bringing combat wounded veterans together. Thank you Wounded Warriors in Action Foundation Inc for all that you do for combat wounded veterans!

Had the best time of my life due to the support of WWIA, they paid for an all expenses paid trip to go halibut fishing in Alaska. I received my Purple Heart do to a road side bomb in Iraq, and ended up loosing my job in the military because of it. Since then things have been rough, and never could have imaged having fun again like I did in Alaska. Because of WWIA, I have found hope again and realized there are other people like me out there. Thanks WWIA from the bottom of my heart.

What an awesome organization! They took us on a Halibut fishing trip in Seward Alaska. The trip was extremely well organized and executed. We had a blast! We saw whales, Orcas, Sea Lions, Mountain Goats, Porpoises, and caught lots of Halibut, Cod and Rockfish. Our guide was knowledgeable and helped us throughout the trip. WWIA is a great non profit and really cares about the people it serves!

WWIA is not just about hunting and fishing. It is about making connections; connections to nature, connections to other wounded veterans, connections with sportsmen who share the same passion for the outdoors. Through these connections WWIA is changing lives every single day. I have watched this organization grow for many years now and have seen and felt the power that the great outdoors has on our combat wounded veterans as well as the people who are able to surround themselves with these great men and women.

My name is Nathan Allen, I have been with this organization since 2011. I went on my first hunt a few months after being shot in Afghanistan and all i could think to myself was "What a life changing program." To top it all off the founder John McDaniels was on the event to personally tell the heroes what the foundation was about and how he envisioned to build the foundation up. I knew instantly i wanted to be on board and serve along side fellow purple heart recipients to help heal and serve Purple heart recipients. WWIA helps heal and transform heroes that are looking to fill a possible void in their lives by turning them into outdoors men or by helping them hone in their hunting/fishing skills. I have personally seen guys make great transformations in a 4 day event by talking to them around the campfire and they realize they aren't alone, and others in the group are going through the exact same struggles we all experience. I can't preach about this organization enough, It's results speak for itself and how we serve the Purple Heart Community.

As we move into year 7 of our volunteer work with WWIAF, we are constantly amazed at the enduring impact these programs have on Purple Heart heroes. Annually, we host 3 hunting events set up by WWIAF who provides a professional Associate/Guide onsite for each event. From the moment these men and women arrive onsite- you can see and feel the relief they have knowing they are going to be among the only people who understand their nightmares, survivor guilt, and life long medical issues. That is other Purple Heart recipients-and for some, this has been their only opportunity to be in this type of environment. Wrapped around a love of the outdoors and outdoor sports, an immediate camaraderie envelopes the environment and then the magic of transformation unfolds right before our eyes. We have seen participants who have not left their home in years except for medical appointments- feeling relaxed in the outside world. We have heard stories from years ago never shared until the event they attended. As only one of the many events held by WWIA, we can share story after story of how these 4 days literally change the life of not only the Purple Heart recipient, but many times for their family as well.

I was selected to go on a turkey hunt in Kansas with WWIA. This organization is head and shoulders above anything I have done. Every person I met was truly amazing. They make you feel like one of them as if you’ve known them all for years. The food is amazing and something different every day. Elk, fish, morel mushrooms, duck, prime rib, Rocky Mountain oysters, and more. Carl puts you up in his own home and opens everything up for you. There is no pressure or parading you around. It’s truly your own hunt. They put you on the birds and ensure you have the best possibility to get what your after. If you tag out or just want to switch it up they have a pontoon to take you out fishing for walleye, crappie, striped bass. It was an amazing trip being out with other wounded vets and sharing your stories or just shooting the breeze. It’s nice to be back with your own people that understand the struggles you may have. Shout out to Ted who was my guide and made every effort to make sure I was comfortable and able to navigate through the woods. Also, Cole, Herman, John, Nate for guiding and giving the brotherhood throughout. Special shout out to Austin for putting me on the bird when we hunted hard the whole trip and hadn’t got cooperation from the birds. This is a top notch organization that has set the bar for anything out there. If you have the time to apply and are selected for this hunt you will not be disappointed in any sense. Thank you WWIA for a remarkable experience that I wouldn’t have experienced without your support for our wounded veterans!! God Bless you all!!

Great Organization that touches many lives. I've been involved with Wounded Warrior's In Action for the past three years and have seen personally how they can bring joy and meaning to Soldiers lives all across the blessed United States of America. They keep their events small (4-6 Soldiers) so to bring that home-town feel and sense of comradery. They are very efficient with how they use their money spending mostly on the quality of the events vs overhead.

I am very proud to be part of this amazing organization, and cant wait to see the many lives they will continue to touch as they forge ahead!

This was an amazing trip not only because I am an avid fisherman but because I got to spend it with my fellow Purple Heart Recipients. Most people just can’t relate to Veterans and even less can relate to Veterans who have been wounded in combat. Even though all of us wounded warriors fought on different battlefields or were from different eras and grew up in different parts of the country it had felt like we had know each other our entire lives. I had an Amazing Fishing trip to Alaska, I have a few injuries from the military and a little anxiety so traveling to unknown places is a pain, but the WWIA organization had the trip and needs of the trip so organized I didn’t panic once thanks to the vast information I packed enough meds and appropriate clothing for the type of climate.

The group I was with was awesome! We got to talking and reminiscing about some funny times while deployed and also some sad ones. It was a really good experience for some of those guys to tell their stories about how they are navigating through civilian life: It felt like I known this group of people for many years.

This trip helped me a lot mentally and physically. It let me know that I need to work on some things physically, but also that I can still do so much even with my injuries. Speaking and seeing how other with similar injuries go through life also helped a lot.

The Seward Alaska views where amazing: we got to see bold eagles, whales and even a sea otters! The fishing was so incredible for me. I was nervous about fishing because my back injuries and the use of my hands is not as good as it used to be, but even I caught a few fish (which always puts a smile on my face) myself. The Captain in charge of the boat, John Saline was very professional and incredibly knowledgeable and was there to address our concerns while we were underway.

The Wounded Warrior In Action is an amazing organization, I am very thankful that I got to be a part of it, and I was very honored to have been chosen to go in this trip. I’m especially grateful that I was able to meet other veterans as well as the organizers of the trip. This is a trip that I am going to remember for the rest of my life & thank you all so much for your hard work & dedication.

To Honor. To Connect. To Heal.

Succinct, yet three sentences thoroughly explain the power of the Wounded Warriors in Action Foundation (WWIA). My involvement with WWIA began over 3 years ago, when I was invited to attend a top-tier fishing trip with a wonderful group of my peers (Purple Heart recipients). The level of camaraderie experienced during that trip was unmatched. For the first time, I was able to bond with a group of peers who "got it" - who truly understood all of the dynamics. The event was so powerful for me, I wanted...needed...to get involved; and I was able to.

Now, as an Associate Guide, I have the humbling honor of meeting 3-5 new groups of our nation's combat wounded heroes. From the initial phone call, through a powerful event, and for an infinite time thereafter; I get the honor of making new friends, connecting at a personal level, and partake in a level of healing that cannot be found in a physicians office. Each experience is incredible in it's own way!

WWIA SAVES LIVES! They are an amazing organization truly dedicated to helping heal wounded warriors souls and rescue them from depression. They create an incredible support system. Post injury wounded service members struggle with a lot of different mental and physical issues.
Hearing everyone’s story, and realizing that you aren’t alone, everyone is experiencing a lot of the same struggles and stressors, and emotions and how they deal with them really helps.
The foundation really does save lives by uniting injured service members and helping them connect with each other and connect with nature. Words can not possibly express how grateful I am for this opportunity and everyone involved.

I would like to thank WWIAF for the opportunity of a lifetime that I just experienced - a whitetail deer hunt in Missouri! Something I always dreamed about but never imagined something like this would ever happen to me! After receiving the invitation to participate, I began counting down the days....just like a child waiting for Santa to come. Never in my wildest dreams could I have ever imagined what was in store for me ...From the beginning of this experience, everything was planned and run like a clock. The accommodations at Napier Hunt Club were first class. WWIAF made sure that we wanted for nothing....if they didnt already have it - all you had to do was ask. Everyone there went above and beyond to make sure we were welcome, comfortable and having the time of our lives. The experience, hospitality and comraderie was without question beyond belief. I went there as a stranger and came home with new friendships and an enlarged family. I would also like to thank all the volunteers who gave up their time in their own lives to help out with the hunt to make sure everything ran smoothly...and that the 10 "warriors" had the time of their life!....great job! It seemed like the entire community came together for the MoKan Ducks & Bucks event - even the school children. I was very touched by the cards and momentos that the children made for us. I will treasure the things the kids made for us forever! When I tell my friends and family about the hunt, the last thing they hear is, "oh, yeah I got a buck." I went with the expectation and hopes of getting a big buck but after I got there, suddenly that was not the important thing anymore.
Thanks to everyone from the bottom of my heart!

The WWIAF (Wounded Warriors In Action Foundation) is a mission driven Foundation with all the right motives. After serving in the US Army and struggling after Deployment to Iraq where I was struck with Enemy Mortar Shrapnel, civilian life and full time employment was just covering up the wounds that were held deep within. My physical scars had healed but emotionally my body was a wreck. In 2011, I received a phone call from WWIAF HQ, and was asked to attend a Hunting Event in Missouri. The call came only two days after being released from the VA Medical Center's psychiatric ward where I was seeking "help". Someone was truly looking out for me, because the event in Missouri showed me the camaraderie, love and inner peace I felt during service. The brotherhood and bond amongst one-another was real again. The network of support that the Foundation has created is phenomenal. Through the power of the outdoors and how its ability to naturally heal from within, the WWIAF and I are now eternally bonded. For the past 6 years I have been an active volunteer and owe my gratitude to John McDaniel, the founder, a brother in arms, my friend. I highly recommend being a part of this Foundation as it is much more than just a hunt or fishing trip, it is a true resource for continuing life.

I first got involved with WWIAF 3 years ago, when I was asked to attend a Whitetail Hunt close to my hometown. I was excited for the opportunity and a little nervous on what to expect. I quickly realized they were not like the others. No one pressured me for my story, or forced some sort of therapy on me. It was a laidback, and relaxing atmosphere, where a bunch of guys could get together and escape the world they are trapped in on a daily basis. Mother Nature and the outdoors provide a therapeutic process like no other. I have since become more involved in the Foundation, and have made friends for a lifetime, not to mention the strongest support group any warrior could ask for.

I spent 10 years in the Marine Corps and left as a SSgt in late 2012. I received my PH from a mortar blast in Iraq in 2006. Back in 2010 I came across www.wwiaf.org and it literally changed my life. I grew up hunting and fishing but hadn't done much of either for close to a decade while I served. The founder of WWIA himself (Mr. John McDaniel) called invited me on a musky fly fishing trip in the northwoods of Wisconsin in 2010. To be honest at first I thought it was a scam but I gave it a shot and had the trip of a lifetime! Fast forward a few years and now I'm blessed to be able to help share more of these events with my brothers. True healing occurs on these trips and finding an awesome organization like Wounded Warrior's in Action has been one of the biggest blessings in my life. I'd be willing to bet money that hundreds of PH veterans would agree with me 110%. I was wounded twice in Iraq in 2004. From 2004 until 2013 I found ways to help with the healing process. On numerous occasions I was afforded the opportunity to go out with organizations for hunts, fishing trips, biking trips, camping etc. each time I refused. I consider myself lucky to be alive and always thought there were more in need that these organizations were designed for. My wife sent in an application for WWIA. I received a phone call from the foundation to go on a duck hunt in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. I was very hesitant, but my wife was very persistent! It was one of the best decisions I ever made! I spent a weekend doing something that I love, surrounded by a group of wounded veterans from the Vietnam War, Iraq War and the Afghan War and most importantly great Americans who volunteered their time and resources to just say thank you with no strings attached. The cadre of the Wounded Warriors in Action Foundation is top notch!! All are volunteers, most were wounded themselves and never once did they ask for anything in return! I left a new man, a better person and most importantly a better husband and father. I told my buddies about the foundation and every single one of them, that has done an event with another organization, was envious of my experience. Thank you Wounded Warriors in Action.

My name is Doug Alderton, while in service in Afghanistan doing rout clearance missions we came under heavy attack which ended in losing our truck commander Sgt Ryan Adams and severely injuring my self and many others in our convoy. After being medically retired from the military I like many others felt lost. I had lost not only my position with the military but also the brotherhood. This built onto the already many physical and mental injuries and made the depression a constant in my life. With the invite of a close friend Matt Tennessen to attend a WWIA event and just try and be around others who were dealing with the same issues my eyes were opened and I was now recharged knowing I wasn't alone in this battle in life. The men and women if WWIA are truly giving vets a chance to be part of a new brother/sister hood of peers who know what you are dealing with and giving us the opportunity to recover spending time together and doing events that show we can still do and enjoy life events. After my deployment to Iraq in 2005, I was desperately searching for that brotherhood I had for the past year. And I found that with WWIA, to be with fellow combat wounded veterans again was simply amazing. The simplicity of WWIA and how they coordinate and operate should be a prime example of how a nonprofit (veteran) organization should be managed. To have a organization spend more on the care for the veterans it serves and less on promotional waste is wonderful to see. I feel honored to be a member and associate with WWIA.

I was in a very tough place upon my return from Afghanistan. I went on a turkey hunt in Wausau Wisconsin. They teamed me up with another combat wounded veteran who had already experienced healing and was trained as a peer mentorer by the organization. That was the first time that I felt comfortable talking to anyone. Needless to say the hunt was a success but the weekend turned my life around. If it was not wounded warriors in action I don't know where my life would be at. I know it would be in a very different place that it is now. Thank you wounded warriors in action.

This organization turned my post deployment life around. Matching Purple Heart Veterans with other Purple Heart Veterans in nature is the best way to heal. Peer to peer therapy has the highest rate of success for treatment of physical and mental wounds. You can open up to a mentor who has gone through the same things as you. Puts the Va and WWP to shame.

WWIA is truly an amazing organization. I first found out about WWIA when a friend of mine (another Purple Heart recipient) went on a Flordia gator hunt with them. He came back and was blown away by the experience. I was really torn about going because I felt since I have been lucky enough to find ways around my injuries to continue to hunt and fish I should save this opportunity for someone else who may not have been as lucky. With a little coaching from WWIA's logistics Cordinator I made the decision to go on a hunt. I was lucky enough to go to St. Joseph Missouri where the I had the pleasure of meeting some of the most red blooded American's in this country. the other Warriors and I had an abundance of game to harvest. It was by far the best hunting trip I've ever been on. The hunting was amazing and the people (WWIA & The community) were even better.
This organization is so special because it gives us as Warriors the chance to get back together with some "Brothers". When you are in the military there's one thing that will never be lacking in that is comeradery. When we get out that can never be replaced in the cilivian world. The next closest thing for me has always been my hunting buddy's. So when WWIA mixes these two they hit gold every time.
I'm really looking forward to the future and the chance to volunteer with this amazing group.

In 2012 I proposed that our hunting club host a weekend for Wounded Warriors. Being new to the field, I contacted another group. The event went OK, but totally due to OUR efforts. I did some research and found WWIA. We hosted our third event with WWIA last October. Dates for this year have been set and we plan on having a five year reunion event in 2017! Two hunting clubs participate and the Warriors get to hunt birds on Saturday and fish for MONSTER trout on Sunday. Food is amazing and the interaction between the Warriors is priceless. We have even introduced live music by a 15 year Army vet, at Saturday dinner. It just keeps getting better. And, WWIA has been great to work with. And the Warriors are the best!

I attended my first WWIA event in Fall 2012. It was a hunting and fishing trip in the northwoods of Wisconsin at WWIA's beautiful Camp Hackett. I met the founder John McDaniel and other Purple Hearty veterans. I was in kind of a bad place not too long before this event but was beginning to find my way. WWIA has been a part of helping me find a network of fellow combat wounded veterans to rely upon and help in my healing. I am so grateful to WWIA for helping me that I have become approved by the headquarters to be the "lead associate" on numerous events. Which means I now am helping my fellow brothers and sisters re-adjust and feel the magical healing powers of the great outdoors in their own lives. And not just the outdoors, but the camaraderie and feeling of "belonging" that attending an event provides. WWIA is truly one of the best organizations in the country helping veterans right now and I sincerely hope it is around for decades to come.

WWIA is a great non-profit organization! I have volunteered on several occasions and have been impressed with both the quality of events offered to the Medal of Honor recipients and the care in helping them adjust to their new normal. The volunteers teach the Warriors how to fish or hunt using adaptive equipment based on their needs. The comradely between the men/women is healing and allows them to be more at ease.

I recently attended a fishing event sponsored and hosted by the Wounded Warrior In Action Foundation. They are 110% for assisting Veterans and making their event a top notch world class experience for the Purple Heart recipient. It is often hard for Veterans to talk to friends and family about their military experience. At these WWIA events the Veteran has the opportunity to talk freely and privately to those who may have had a similar experience or tragedy. I will always be in debt to the WWIA for the event they made possible for me to attend. Thank You

I have been involved with the Wounded Warriors In Action Foundation for several years in a few different technical capacities. John and the staff have always been highly dedicated to their mission and I have not once witnessed anything but a deep sense of service to the heroes that they serve.

My involvement and "story" with this organization is two-fold. Initially, I was a "client served" and that first experience was literally life changing. Not only did I get to spend some incredible time with other men that have similar (if not worse) experiences as myself, but I couldn't believe how received I was in this little community in Northern WI. These people welcomed me into their homes and businesses as if I were family, and I do consider myself to this day extended family of Phelps, WI.

But it was that experience that led me to volunteering for this organization and now into my 4th year I can say that I truly get so much more out of my time and effort that I volunteer than what is seen by the eye! The amount of wonderful people I now call friends from coast to coast, from other Purple Hearters to Patriotic Americans I am blessed with their friendship! I literally "recharge" myself on each event I volunteer on and I know that these serene moments I get in our great outdoors with like minded Americans is priceless!

What sets this organization apart from the rest is the attention to the individual - the amazing amount of healing that can be accomplished by getting warriors out into nature, giving them at least a few days to get acclimated with a small number of other combat wounded, and giving them a mentor to help them along their path. Truly outstanding! Thank you for your giving and caring approach to healing.

This is our third year volunteering with WWIAF, an organization that has consistent leadership and direction. There is no question that all efforts (time, financial, etc.) are directed to meeting the mission of helping to heal our Purple Heart Heroes by connecting through outdoor sporting events. Timing is everything for these heroes and for some the atmosphere WWIAF creates at these events is the only "safe" place to tell their story.
We have been humbled by the courage and perseverance of each soldier who live their lives in a world of constant medical appointments, surgeries, and physical therapy.

WWIAF provides an opportunity to not only put their medical and emotional issues aside for a time, but provides these heroes with an opportunity to connect with the only people who can truly understand their challenges- other Purple Heart recipients. A Navy Purple Heart shared with us that although he had been out of the service for several years, he had purposely removed himself from any military connections. He had not talked about his experiences that led to his injuries for years-that is until he decided to participate in a WWIAF deer hunting event.

I have worked with and directed a non-profit in the past, and have never worked with a more mission driven organization that realizes their goals and those who give can see the benefits and end results of their work.

World class organization! I'm a Purple Heart veteran who went on a fishing trip with WWIA in 2010 and had a great time. I'm now separated from the Marines and have the time to volunteer to give back to more warriors who need a good time in the outdoors. There is real healing that occurs for the men and women warriors on these trips to the outdoors, and it's the only organization I can 110% vouch for. You want your money or time to do the most good for wounded vets, look no further than Wounded Warriors in Action Foundation!

As a "client served" and a volunteer I get so much out of this organization that it is a part of my life. Not only do I absolutely enjoy volunteering for this organization, but it really is a part of my therapy as a wounded veteran. From the internal folks to the local communities we operate in, the people are amazing and they empower my patriotism!

A 4 day all expense paid trip to a hunting camp 20 miles from Phillips, Wisconsin in late October. Camp Hackett provided 400+ private acres and a chance to harvest a trophy whitetail. This is what was made available to me through the WWIA. My buddy Robin and I arrived at camp mid morning on Thursday and were immediately greeted by John, Jake, and Matt. John said unload your kit, hit the qualification stand (have to qualify with your equipment prior to the hunt), and we'll get you out onto a stand. I couldn't believe it, they understood exactly why I had signed up for this event... to HUNT. About that time it began to snow/rain. Most guys I know would have headed for shelter. John and his crew were eager for me to get on the stand though. They assisted me through the preliminaries and an hour later I was on the stand, I told Robin, "This is my kind of people". After a day on the deer stand we came back to camp with hot chow and warm bunks waiting. No pressure here you went out to the stand when you wanted and returned when you wanted, "Just enjoy the woods", John said. No media in our faces or people with a lot of questions, just hunting and comraderie. Stories were told and new ones made. God has provided the setting, John and his staff have chosen to use it to help heal. I thank God for WWIA and WWIA for the opportunity it provided.

I had the pleasure to take 2 WWIA HEROES out on the water for an afternoon of Musky Fishing. The guys were great, we boated a giant 48.8" Musky with a 25+" girth. It was the most rewarding fish that has ever been caught in my boat!!! John runs a great operation at the camp up here in northern Wisconsin, he also has an awesome support team. I look forward to serving more of our HEROES in the future!!!

I have had the opportunity to participate (as a vollenteer) in two Upstate NY hunts. My Father was the lead in both. It was an Honor to have the opportunity to meet and thank these Heros! I (and my children) were Blessed in seeing the healing that these hunts provide- to the recipients and the givers. We also provide the opportunity for some community members to meet and Thank these fine men. I have made life long connections by being a part of this oginization and look forward to making more. It is so important to provide these opportunities to Purple Heart Recipiants. It is so wonderful to see them just be- everything is taken care of- all they do is relax, heal and enjoy! What a Gift this organization is- please give- time, money, anything you can... It is so important!

I recently attended the Gator Hunt in Palm Bay, FL and had a great time. WWIA took care of everything in advance and kept me informed about all of it. It was a simple process, thanks to them, to get to the hunt, check in, and get reimbursed for ALL my related expenses. I wound up catching an almost 10' gator and now have plenty of meat for my family & friends to enjoy. i was able to keep the hide and will make something from it & WWIA is taking care of the skull mount for FREE!!

My name is Kevin Johnson. I recently enjoyed an alligator hunt courtesy of the WWIA. Let me tell you, these guys pull out all of the stops. From making travel arrangements to throwing the best experience I have had as a hunter.

I left my hunt with a 9 foot gator, alot of meat and some awesome stories to tell my kids. Not to mention all of the new friends I made along the way.

I would especially like to thank Col. John McDaniel and Duanne Wallace for making my hunting experience so great. Thank you to the Brevard County Air Boat Association for the rides, and the guides who helped me to bag a huge gator.

I highly recommend WWIAF to donors and volunteers. As a wounded warrior myself I was able to take advantage of a trip that WWIAF invited me to in upstate NY to go go Pheasant hunting. I will tell you that this is a first class organization and that my experience was a memorable one. It provided me with a sense well being, comraderie, and promoted healing from all that were involved in the planning, organizing and participation of the trip. I highly recommend this organization and support them as a volunteer currently. You can make a huge difference in a Purple Heart recipients life by donating, volunteering, and supporting this outstanding organization. ---- Tony W.

My name is Stephanie Davis, I come from a very large military family. My brother was part of the 173rd airborne, a support unit during the Afghan war. His job was to set up the mash units and hospitals in and around Bahgram Airforce base and in Kandahar. He lost many soldiers during the war, they were also his close friends. Several men from his unit were subjected to a horrific ambush. He was affected greatly by the loss of his fellow soldiers. Those and many others that survived during this war are now purple heart recipients. In order for me to understand these tragedies and to remain supportive to him, I chose to volunteer for WWIA foundation. After explaining to my brother what this foundation was all about, he said that what I was doing meant slot to him as he knows these men and women will forever be changed by this war, both mentally and physically. John Mc Daniel, the founder of this great organization has the biggest heart and the kindest soul. He started this to help the healing process by committing himself to help so many people that he refers to as heroes. I am amazed at how many people's lives he has touched and continues to heal these warriors long after they are sent home. These brave people are loved by him. It is an honor to help this foundation in any way that we can.
