Causes: Botanical Gardens & Arboreta, Environment, Garden Clubs
Mission: To inspire the use and appreciation of horticulture to improve lives, enrich communities, and strengthen commitment to the natural world.
Programs: The worcester county horticultural society (wchs) is the third oldest active horticultural society in the united states. In 1986, the society created tower hill botanic garden (thbg) in boylston. Today, thbg is a dynamic horticultural showcase with 171 acres of grounds, 16 acres of developed gardens, two conservatories housing more than 1,000 plants, and miles of trails through forest and field. We are also: a vibrant community gathering place that welcomes over 140,000 visitors - and 18,000 members - to our gardens each year, a center of horticultural learning for over 16,000 participants in more than 500 annual lectures, classes, and workshops, a place of delight and discovery for over 8,000 youth, and a place where all, no matter their age or physical ability, can connect with plants and nature. As the only year-round botanic garden in new england, our mission-related visitor amenities also include a cafe, which features and communicates the value of local farm-to-table ingredients, and a garden shop which promotes and encourages gardening as a healthy lifestyle.
