Mission: Our mission is to prevent domestic violence, rape and all other violent crimes committed against women, children and differently-abled. Our purpose is to help women, children and teens to not be victims or prevent them from being re-victimized. To recruit and unite teens, young girls, seniors, differently-abled and LGBT women with a special emphasis on women of color and economically disadvantaged women. WESDA's prevention program is successful because we focus on four elements: education, self awareness, empowerment and self defense. Our mission will be accomplished through women's empowering self defense workshops, seminars, conferences, demonstrations and dissemination of information.
Results: To date we have empowered hundreds of women and children of all ages and all over the Bronx. We have given many their voices back and renewed spirits by getting them to truly understand they have options and choices. That they are somebody and not just anybody to be used and abused.
Target demographics: empower wormen and children
Direct beneficiaries per year: hundreds of women and children through workshops in churches, schools, senior citizen centers, public service agencies and more.
Geographic areas served: Bronx, NY
Programs: empowering through education, prevention by teaching street smart safety tips and self defense by teaching simple, easy to remember yet extremely effective techniques to incapacitate an attacker in order to escape and stay safe. Our ultimate goal is to decrease the high statistic of domestic violence and other violent crimes committed against women and children in the Bronx. We cater to many different groups of women. We have programs in place for children, teens, women, seniors, differentl-abled and LGBT. We are aware that men are also victims of domestic violence and therefore we also work with men and boys.
