Mission: Improve the lives of persons with disabilities by giving them more opportunities and choices to enhance their independence and increase the quality of their lives. Wispact manages and supervises activities of pooled and community trusts for persons with disabilities and for other charitable purposes.
Programs: Wispact establishes and manages trusts for the special needs of persons with disabilities without endangering their eligibility for public benefits or placement on waiting lists. These benefits include entitlement programs such as supplemental security income, medical assistance, social security disability insurance and medicare and home and community-based services, such as the community integration, options, and support programs. As of december 31, 2014, wispact was managing 1,847 trusts holding $83,254,772.
wispact provides education to the public about special needs trusts for people with disabilities through online, videos, and print publications and through presentations to various groups.
the retained fund (also known as the wispact fund) are assets held in trust by wispact to benefit beneficiaries of wispact trusts in need. Generally, beneficiaries of wispact trust i and ii are eligible for assistance. The fund can cover a vast number of requests, ranging from subsidies for trust creation costs, funeral and burial costs, financial literacy courses, vocational support, assistive devices, transportation, and other emergencies. While a broad range of assistance is available, a vast majority of assistance rendered has been for creation cost subsidies and post-death expenses.
