Causes: Community Clinics, Health
Mission: The Wisconsin Association of Free and Charitable Clinic's mission is to support, strengthen and advocate for the uniqueness of the Wisconsin free and charitable clinics, the patients they serve, and the communities with which they partner.
Results: WAFCC is seeking a 5,000 dollar investment to continue to provide resources and technical assistance to free and charitable clinics, so they may better deliver care to the underserved. With over 785,000 people enrolled in Wisconsin’s Medicaid program, and over 325,000 residents with no health insurance, free and charitable clinics, FCCs, are greatly needed. WAFCC currently has three programs which benefit free clinics and the low-income people they serve. The Standards of Excellence Program was developed to offer FCCs measurable guidance specific to their, environment, practices, and health services. The Standards are a strategic tool to help FCCs meet the challenges of health care delivery. The Navigator Program was created by WAFCC to work with FCC patients who are low-income and uninsured to obtain, choose, and transition to having health insurance. Last year the program worked with over 14,000 people in Southwest Wisconsin to discuss their health insurance needs and availability. Finally WAFCC formally works and advocates for FCCs to receive funding from public and private entities. This year WAFCC secured six free and charitable clinics with seven full time capacity building volunteers through the AmeriCorps VISTA program which will assist FCCs over the next three years.
