The burke medical research institute works in conjunction with the burke rehabilitation hospital and weill cornell medical college to develop new therapeutic approaches to these impairments.
Programs: The burke neurological institute bni conducts research involving protection from and repair of neurological diseases, such as stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, alzheimers and parkinsons. In pursuing this goal, the burke neurological institute seeks to harness teh best in contemporary neuroscience to advance interventions to improve brain repair and recovery of function. This endeavor is actively advanced by frequent and lively interchange between scientits working on novel pharmacological, biological and robotic approaches to repair the damaged brain. Faculty at the burke neurological institute are experts in teh rehabilitation of neurological diseases, and are committed to help translate these approaces to the bedside. A number of important clinical trials have been completed and are ongoing. However, we are far from reaching our clicial goals and potential, the lack of brain repair and consequent disability remains a large and almost silent epidemic.
