Thanks to WINGS, I survived 2 breast cancers in 2016 and given another 2 years of life. What a blessing it was that I didn’t have to worry about how I was going to pay for treatment and focus on healing! Unfortunately, I wasn’t accepted into the program this year when diagnosed with metastasis. But I know that many women are being served by this wonderful organization. Many thanks to the Board, donors, sponsors and volunteers. May God bless you all!
Our office (like too many others) has been affected by breast cancer. We have on staff a survivor who is thriving! We also have an employee whose sister was fighting (and has won!) and was facing financial difficulty - WINGS stepped in to assist her to ensure that her care was maintained with no interruption.
When we learned of WINGS and their mission, our staff stepped up graciously to give back during Breast Cancer Awareness month - not once but now twice!
We can not think of a better cause, a better group of people, or a better mission to stand behind. Their care and dedication to cancer fighters is unparalleled and inspiring!

WINGS is an amazing non profit assisting and supporting those women with breast cancer who are non insured and going through a most difficult and scary time. They provide breast cancer treatment to uninsured women. I've seen them do a wonderful job on social media promoting what they are all about, I've often seen them on the news as well. Lastly, they do a no show gala which is perfect!! You don't have to get dressed up and go anywhere, it's a perfect solution for fundraising.
I know several patients who have received services from WINGS. The team there works hard to make sure lack of insurance or funds doesn't keep a woman from getting lifesaving breast cancer care. More breast cancer patients are now survivers because of WINGS.
Advocating and serving San Antonio and surrounding counties, WINGS creates meaningful ways to engage and connect volunteers and donors to the mission of providing treatment for uninsured women with breast cancer. Working with other breast health organizations such as SLEW and Thrivewell, WINGS sees collaboration as a means of advancing its work in the community. Leadership is shared between the Executive Director and Board to ensure it’s a stronger force for good in the community it serves. The organization is currently in the process of cultivating and building succession planning to solidify its impact and longevity.
Five years ago, I was introduced to the WINGS organization through our Marketing department as they asked if I could recruit volunteers to assist at one of their Silent Auction gala's. Over the past years, our volunteers worked registration, the Silent Auction set-up and the evening's galas. Our volunteers are educated about the WINGS organization and all they do for women diagnosed with breast cancer and how WINGS cares for each woman/patient as they go through the process of treatment from beginning to the doctors final release of cancer free diagnosis. The gala's allow the volunteers and attendees the personal touch of meeting the WINGS patients, doctors and nurses and personal bonds are created for life. During Fiesta in San Antonio, there is a large celebration of life for our patient survivors and this is another opportunity shared with volunteers and the celebrations are tears of joy! Our volunteers continue to give as we share in the patients journey and hopes for a cure of breast cancer!
WINGS is an awe inspiring group who jumped in and helped me when no one else would. I don't know if I'd be alive today if it wasn't for this wonderful group. There is no way I could have paid for my health insurance once my company I had been employed with for 25 suddenly "due our new manager" decided to lay me off. Then that same week I found out I had cancer, I was in shock. Cancer was something that happened to other people, I just never expected it would happen to me. It seems like I have worked most of my life, always had health insurance and was rarely sick. Now I needed it and didn't have it. I didn't know what I was going to do and all the government agencies I called were of no help.
I thank God, that one of the cancer caseworkers at University Health System told me to contact WINGS. It changed my life. They had me fill out their paperwork and I was approved! I was so thankful. They told me they would make my COBRA (health insurance) payments for me and I didn't have to pay them back, set up payments or anything, wow! I was going to have access to quality healthcare and I could finally get some sleep at night, with one less thing to worry about.
Everyone in the WINGS' office have been so kind and helpful to me throughout this nightmare. Of all the cancer organizations and fundraisers out there, WINGS is the one group that reached out and helped me.
I now volunteer my time to WINGS when I can to give back anything I am able. So far that has been in the form of artwork. I have been a graphic designer for 35 years, so I designed their Fiesta pin this year. How fun and exciting that was! I was so thrilled that they liked it. I will continue to help them when I can, I feel like they are an extended part of my family and I owe them my life.
WINGS came to my rescue in 2009. I was Diagnosed with Breast Cancer Dec 1, 2009. I had just signed up for health insurance coverage to start January 1, 2010. Needless to say my insurance would not cover anything as they deemed it a "Pre-Existing Condition". When I told the doctor that I didn't have health insurance she referred me to WINGS and gave me their number. I called them immediately and went by their offices and explained to them my situation. Alice, Sandy and Terri were so welcoming, kind, compassionate and sincere. I filled out the required paperwork and was qualified for assistance. They matched me up with an oncologist and breast surgeon who were absolutely amazing and wonderful Doctors. My entire experience with WINGS has been excellent. Their team and their mission is built on understanding, compassion, love, kindness and giving women and their families the lifetime that they so very much deserve. I will be FOREVER grateful for WINGS. I have been apart of the WINGS family now for 8 years. I OWE MY LIFE to this amazing organization and team of people who not only saved my life but who showed me that there are people who truly care about helping those in need and filling the human spirit with Hope. Love and Hugs!!! Joleen
WINGS is a lifesaving resource for under-resourced breast cancer patients and survivors residing in Bexar County and surrounding counties. They are a continued partner of Susan G. Komen San Antonio. We are proud to partner with an organization that does so much for our community.
WINGS is an awesome organization that helps women who do not have insurance that have been diagnosed with breast cancer, get the treatment they need. I've known this organization for over 12 years and am very impressed by the work they do in the community. Without WINGS so many women would not have an option for care. Keep up the great work!
Thank God for programs such as wings, which provide humanitarian assistance to people with cancer. I am one of those people who has received this help and I am very grateful to Wings as well as to the people who for me are angels who render their services with a high degree of professionalism and human warmth especially to Mrs. Alicia Blanquiz. Atte. Mrs. Maria Villareal.
WINGS has been an awesome organization to help women and men with breast cancer and no insurance. This gives life and hope to people and continue celebrating with family.
WINGS saves the lives of hundreds of women who would die without the funding and resources they receive from WINGS. WINGS is unique, professionally run, and a God-send to women with breast cancer.
WINGS truly makes the difference between life and death for women who have no option for breast cancer treatment. It also picks up cobra payments so women don't

WINGS is a wonderful organization paying for medical treatment to uninsured women in Texas. Without WINGS, so many women would not have any hope with a diagnosis of breast cancer. WINGS gives women hope.
I was looking for a charity I could volunteer with when we moved here in 2002. It had to be something I could really relate to, believe in and care about. Then I found WINGS!! Having lost several family members and a dear friend to breast cancer, I knew I'd found the right place for me. I've moved from volunteer to being a Board member; I have watched WINGS grow and serve this community for 14 years, and I've spoken with many of the women they've served.....women who couldn't get treatment any other way. WINGS does a wonderful job for women no one else will help.........women who would die without treatment. They really do believe that "every woman deserves a lifetime".....and they act to help make that happen! Wonderful Organization!!
Without WINGS, so many uninsured women would not have hope! WINGS provides access to providers and treatment for women with breast cancer. I am honored to be associated with WINGS!
WINGS is a wonderful organization that allows women the opportunity for a future beyond breast cancer. By providing access to providers and treatment that would otherwise be unaffordable for underprivileged women, WINGS gives these women resources to know they too can beat their battle with breast cancer.
WINGS is an amazing organization providing much needed support to so many women in Central and South Texas suffering from breast cancer without insurance. I had no idea we had this many uninsured women who would die without the support of WINGS.
WINGS is an amazing organization providing support to hundreds of women with breast cancer, who might otherwise go without the necessary treatment to save their lives. Hundreds of lives have been saved in South Texas thanks to WINGS!
Originally, I was a once a year volunteer for this organization at the annual gala. Since becoming more familiar with the cause, building relationships with other volunteers and meeting women that we have helped, I have become dedicated to help in any way I can all year around. There are so many organizations that fund breast cancer research. I admire that this organization funds treatement for local South and Central Texas women using private funding. I am happy to know that my hard work and dedication is for the benefit of local women and I can see the impact.
WINGS touches the lives of women who say, "Why should I get a mammogram? If they find something, I cannot afford to do anything about it." It is very heart warming to see how grateful these women and families are once they are touched by the wonderful people who run this organization, raise money, or provide services. God bless you and the work you do.
