I begin volunteering and teaching classes at Windy’s Ranch and Rescue approximately five years ago. I’ve witnessed the kindness, and compassion, and care that these animals receive at the sanctuary. Many of these animals would not be alive today if it was not for Wendy’s Ranch and Rescue. People often get Pot bellied pigs as pets without doing the proper research. Unfortunately it’s the pigs that pay the price. One example was a pig that was abandoned up in the desert. It was young and would not survive long on its on. Windy’s heard about the pig and rushed to capture it and brought it to the sanctuary. It received a medical check up and proper care and is now happy and healthy.
Not only does Windy’s rescue the abandoned pigs, they also help owners who have gotten in over their heads. Several pigs are now at the sanctuary that were fed improperly by the owners. They are obese and needed time and space to get healthy. Wendy’s takes the time to educate the owners on a proper diet and provides exercise and proper nutrition so the pigs can get down to their proper, healthy weight Before returning home. And of course the owners are always welcome to come out and visit their pigs while they are at the health spa.
