Mission: We provide subsidized rental housing and services for low-to-moderate income qualified households and free community services and programs for low-income households. We served over 800 households (about 1500 individuals) in 2017. Programs and services included: subsidized rentals and tenant support program for 58 households; vita tax preparation for 309 low-income households; senior nutrition programs for 211 households; and housing counseling and referral services for over 250 households.
Programs: Subsidized rental housing and tenant support program - we provide 58 units of affordable rental housing at rents far below market levels to low-to- moderate income households. Tenants include elderly, disabled, families with children, and military veterans. Tenants are visited 3-4 times each year by a support team of volunteers offering maintenance assistance, financial counseling, and social services. Home visits are supplemented by in-office support and liaison with social service agencies, schools, food assistance, church organizations, and community groups. Approximately 19% of tenant rents are subsidized by hud vouchers, and 81% are subsidized by willow grove cdc. During 2017, 10 volunteers served on support teams.
housing counseling and referral services - we provide counseling and referral services for low-to-moderate income households seeking housing assistance through our network of service providers and agencies. In 2017, over 250 low-income households received counseling services, over 500 applications were received, and over 150 qualified applicants are on our waiting lists for placement. Group workshops were conducted on-site for financial and homebuyer education.
senior nutrition programs - we offer senior farmers' market nutrition program vouchers and nutrition education to low-income seniors through this usda-sponsored program. In 2017, 193 vouchers were issued to qualified seniors whose income was below 24,000. A new program was added in july 2017 to provide monthly usda food boxes and nutrition information to 18 very low-income seniors.
vita tax preparation program - we are a handicapped-accessible host site for the irs-sponsored volunteer income tax assistance program offering free tax preparation to lower-income households and persons with disabilities. Sign language interpreters were available on site to serve 20 hearing- impaired persons with mental health or intellectual disabilities. In 2017, 309 low-income households were served by 9 irs-trained volunteers.
