Mission: The Wild Animal Health Fund provides financial resources for studies that cure, treat, heal, and sustain zoo animals and wildlife in habitats worldwide.
Results: Since 2012, we have funded 121 projects for $1,167,369 in research dollars, which has helped 72 wild animal species. If we are going to make a difference in stopping the extinction of many endangered species, our goal is to fund $1 million in research projects on an annual basis.
Target demographics: Zoo animals and wildlife in all habitats around the world
Direct beneficiaries per year: 18 species were helped last year on studies focusing on topics like improved anesthetics in avian species, diagnosing disease in sea lions, new non-invasive monitoring techniques, and so much more.
Geographic areas served: Globally, zoo and Wildlife veterinarians are working to help zoo animals and wildlife.
Programs: The Wild Animal Health Fund is a program of the American Association of Zoo Veterinarians. This program is tackling the paucity of information available to zoo and wildlife veterinarians by funding critical animal health studies.
