Causes: Environment, Natural Resources Conservation & Protection
Mission: Our mission is to preserve the hunting tradition for future generations, promote the acquisition, enhancement, and management of wildlife habitat, and develop and promote educational programs related to wildlife conservation.
Programs: Deer program -education is a top priority for whitetails unlimited and our deer (developing educational and environmental resources) program consists of organizational initiatives and activities that facilitate the introduction of youth and their families to the great outdoors. This includes events, activities, and educational elements that expose participants to conservation, fishing, hunting, shooting sports, wildlife management, and environmental education. As a strong advocate and supporter of hunter safety and hands-on instruction, whitetails unlimited is in the forefront of providing state hunter education instructors with necessary teaching aids required to train our nation's youth.
preserving the hunting tradition -whitetails unlimited is a staunch supporter of the second amendment, hunter rights, and promoting the sport of regulated hunting. America's hunters and target shooters have an annual impact of over $110 billion and supports nearly a million jobs nationwide. Hunting is a wholesome family activity that provides outdoor recreation and healthy food source for millions of american families. Major initiatives of whitetails unlimited focus on hunter recruitment and retention, increasing hunting opportunities for sportsmen and women and providing unique outdoor experiences to youth, veterans, and the physically challenged.
staying on target program - as a stout advocate for the perpetuation of the shooting sports, whitetails unlimited is helping build the next generation of shooters by supporting public archery and firearm ranges. Major emphasis is placed on whitetails unlimited shooting sports activities including kids on target "3 in the red" firearm challenge and "three for three" archery challenge, and our adopt-a-team initiative. These target shooting initiatives provide an introduction to youth archery and firearm fundementals to help nurture a lifelong interest in the shooting sports, and ultimately expose the next generation to the sport of regulated hunting.
hope for wildlife program -wildlife habitat and hunter access are priorities of whitetails unlimited that are being addressed through our hope (habitat options & planned enhancement) for wildlife program. One initiative helps build relationships with private landowners who play a vital role in wildlife conservation and deer management. Whitetails unlimited initiatives also create partnerships with state and federal resource agencies to acquire land and increase public hunting opportunities, and to improve and maintain critical habitat for deer and other wildlife species. To safeguard our investment in wildlife, we also provide measures that combat the serious crime of poaching. Whitetail watch -a program created by whitetails unlimited to help curb the crime of poaching across the united states. Whitetail watch components include boundary property signs, wallet cards, and decals as visible reminders to poachers that local citizens are on the watch and will report any suspicious activity. The sign encourages anyone who sees suspicious activity to report it to their proper wildlife law enforcement agency. The act of poaching steals from all citizens, damages our natural resources, and casts a negative light on the sport of regulated hunting. Project polite - access to private property -over two decades ago, whitetails unlimited developed a very successful public relations program, in an attempt to rectify one of the major problems confronting regulated hunting - access to private property! In an effort to solve this dilemma a program titled project polite, an acronym for permission of landowner in order to enter was created and unveiled to america's hunting fraternity. The program consists of three major components: wtu hunter-landowner id cards, complimentary hunting with permission signs, and a variety of highly visible public service announcements. The motivation for this highly successful program evolved from the fact that over seventy-five percent of our nation's prime wildlife habitats are in the hands of the private landowner. Considering that figure alone, it's obvious that good relations must continue to be fostered between the hunter and the private landowner. When you combine proper identification with a personal, polite request to hunt a person's property, doors start opening to new hunting opportunities. Hunt for the hungry initiative - whitetails unlimited is a strong supporter of hunter donations to food pantries, and has been instrumental in both financing and expanding programs in many states. Each hunting season, wtu encourages members and hunters to donate venison they cannot use personally to food pantries in their local area. The donated venison provides thousands of meals to the less fortunate. Our hunt for the hungry initiative advocates the message to our membership and also partners with other groups like share the harvest, sportsmen against hunger and others. These programs provide a valuable service to many communities, and are an easy way for hunters to help out while they participate in the sport of regulated hunting. If you get your deer early in the season and still want to hunt, taking another deer to donate to a food pantry is a great way to extend the season. Adopt-a-team program - whitetails unlimited implemented the wtu adopt-a-team initiative, to help fund permanent endowments for shooting sports programs at high schools throughout wtu's chapter base and membership demographics. This program fosters wtu's mission of preserving the hunting tradition by actively involving our nation's youth in the shooting sports and hopefully some day they will considered the sport of regulated hunting. For administrative purposes and once the commitment is made, whitetails unlimited will provide a grant to the midway usa foundation in the name of the shooting entity. The actual endowment account is administered by the foundation comprehensive deer management program -wtu's comprehensive deer management program is aimed at providing landowners with 1. ) a background on the history of whitetail deer management. 2. ) a basic understanding of white-tailed deer ecology and their habitats. 3. ) a general overview of deer management principles. The program focuses on the whitetail, and encompasses aspects of traditional, quality, and trophy deer management strategies. Our comprehensive deer management program has experienced a tremendous response from private landowners across this nation. A popular component of the program is our custom 2-color property boundary signs that publicly display the management strategy currently being practiced by that individual landowner. Wtu's booklet titled introduction to deer management is a great starting point for anyone interested in food plots, deer management, or improving wildlife habitat. The step by step information is available as a printed booklet or on dvd. Outreach program -whitetails unlimited provides humanitarian services through several initiatives. These initiatives demonstrate the highest levels of philanthropy by directly reaching out to people in need and help make a real difference. Physically challenged initiative - whitetails unlimited promotes courage and dignity, while enabling the physically challenged to enjoy the great outdoors and fulfill lifelong hunting dreams and wishes. The initiative offers the opportunity to those individuals that have the determination and desire. Dream sheds ii program - throughout the years, whitetails unlimited has been solicited by countless organizations and families, asking if whitetails unlimited offers any assistance towards hunting and fishing experiences for children with life-threatening medical conditions. To answer the call, we developed an initiative that would foster our mission and be supported at the local level by our membership. We created dream sheds and enlisted the assistance of tv personalities, mark and terry drury of drury outdoors to provide the shed antlers. Any child, 18 years old or younger, who is a united states or canadian citizen, has a qualifying physician-certified life-threatening illness, and has not in the past had another hunting or fishing grant, is eligible for consideration.
