Mission: To preserve and enhance non-motorized trail access in whatcom county through stewardship, education, and advocacy.
Programs: Advocacy: wmbc is partnering with the city of bellingham, whatcom county and other non-profit organizations to determine a public purchase option for galbraith mountain. They have obtained approval and permits for a new pump track in whatcom falls park. Have been involved in the trail planning and scouting for lake whatcom reconveyance. Is on the planning committee for the department of natural resources (dnr) bellingham to baker recreation planning committee. Is working with other recreation and conservation partners to find ways to avoid the logging of blanchard mountain. Is involved in the efforts of keeping certain logging roads open in the mount baker national forest. Education/outreach: the wmbc hosted rides for over 200 riders in the after school ride programs for 2016; 9 of the elementary schools and 2 middle schools in the bellingham public school district. In collaboration with (rrad, ride run and dig) they also hosted a bike rodeo in all 14 elementary schools in bellingham as well as several schools in the county and private schools. This reached over 6,200 elementary aged children in whatcom county. The wmbc also sponsored and led 6 week long service learning programs for four schools in whatcom county. Stewardship: the wmbc stewards galbraith mountain, which is known to have over 9,000 people to make use of the trail annually. It is also involved in trail maintenance and planning in larabee state park, bellingham city parks (specifically the dirt jump park), whatcom county parks trails and trails on department of natural resources land (blanchard mountain).
