Mission: The westchester institute for human development (wihd) creates better futures for people with disabilities, for vulnerable children, and for their families and caregivers. Wihd accomplishes its mission through professional education, innovative services and supports, community training and technical assistance and research and information dissemination. Wihd envisions a future in which people with disabilities and vulnerable children live healthy and productive lives as full members of society.
Programs: Wihd operates several innovative community service programs through contracts with the westchester county department of social services. These include a children's advocacy center providing forensic pediatric, counseling and victim support services for children who have been physically and/ or sexually abused; an in-home assessment and prevention program for families whose children are at risk of placement in foster care, including families where one or both parents has a developmental disability; a comprehensive family assessment program to ensure that foster families have the appropriate resources and training needed to support the children placed in their care, health and educational care coordination for children in foster care and after care services for up to two years to reunited birth and adoptive families.
wihd is licensed under article 28 of the new york public health law to operate a diagnostic and treatment center providing comprehensive health care and related services for adults with developmental and other long-term disabilities. These services are primary and specialty health care (including adult neurology, cardiology, ent, podiatry, gynecology, endocrinology, pulmonology, ophthalmology, genetic metabolic).
wihd is licensed under article 28 of the new york public health law to operate a diagnostic and treatment center providing comprehensive health care and related services for adults with developmental and other long-term disabilities. These services are rehabilitation and speech / language, and audiology.
