When I was asked to be a board member in 2020, I had no idea what impact this amazing organization had in the community. COVID caused the center to shut down for almost two years, and to say that volunteers stepped up to continue the commitment to our seniors, is an understatement. The hours spent continuing to support our seniors with meals and food items as well as the out pouring from donations were beyond what we had imagined. Watching the center reopen and seeing the multitude of seniors returning for a well needed connection with all that the center offers: meals, exercise, art, computers, health and wellness, activities, entertainment, and a sense of belonging. Our main event "Casino Night" Nov. 2, 2024 will add another aspect of bringing the seniors together for a fun and eventful evening. I feel fortunate to be a part of this amazing organization and to continue to support the mission of: Enriching the lives of our senior neighbors through friendship, activities, education and nourishment

I have been a board member at the West Chester Area Senior Center for over 4 years. I will never forget the first time I walked through the doors. The smiles on the seniors faces as they interacted with their friends was heart warming. It was evident that the WCASC was a very special place, a place these wonderful folks could belong, get help and support. The WCASC offers fellowship and socialization for over 1,700 seniors. Just amazing!!

The epitome of making lemonade out of lemons, the West Chester Area Senior Center had to close its doors in March 2020 as we all entered the COVID-19 shutdown and overnight developed a food distribution program that fed up to 700 seniors per week. In the first 12 months, the Center provided 150,000 meals and is continuing to do this good work through its brand new permanent “Corner Cabinet” food distribution room onsite to provide meals and food for seniors for many years to come. In addition, the Center has worked hard to find creative ways to keep its seniors engaged during this stressful and often lonely time through its PenPal program, providing telephone assistance, and other meaningful programming. It is my privilege to be serving on this Board!

The West Chester Area Senior Center is important to so many seniors. The volunteers, staff, and community all work together to help seniors day in and day out. The center is always filled with joy, laughter, and sometimes singing. The atmosphere is very welcoming and gives a sense of belonging to all who walk through the door. The programs offered such as our daily Meal Program, weekly Food Distribution Program accomplished through our on-site “Corner Cabinet,” our permanent food pantry, and our Exercise and Health and Wellness Programs are essential to the seniors. West Chester Area Senior Center (WCASC) is a Great Nonprofit, indeed! WCASC helps seniors prevent and navigate challenges and life-altering moments associated with aging so they can remain as healthy, active, engaged, and independent as possible. A fall can lead to loss of independence. A trip to the grocery store increasingly causes anxiety. While some seniors own and operate cars to go shopping, others do not. Some cannot afford food and basic needs. In response, WCASC offers nutrition, health and wellness, and enrichment programs and connects seniors with resources, including assistance with Medicare, PA MEDI, free tax filings, and more. Also, proceeds from WCASC's two local "Second Reading" used bookstores, operated primarily by senior volunteers, support WCASC's programs and services.

I have volunteerd at the Senior Center working with a group of cowokers to deliver goods donated from our annual food drive and spending the day sorting and organizing foods and cleaning the storage areas. I also had the opprtunity to tour the Center, participate in one of thier execrcise sessions (fun!), meet the Center staff and many seniors there that day enjoying breakfast. It was a wonderful experience. This organization is extremely valuable to the West Chester area community and the seniors who benefit from their services. They've served hundreds of thousands of nutritious daily breakfasts and lunches, built a brand new onsite “Corner Cabinet” food distribution center which provides free weekly groceries to their members, and offer fellowship and socialization for 1,700+ seniors to help alleviate isolation. These are just a few of the positive impacts this organization has had on so many seniors in the community. I'm looking forward to more volunteer opprtunities.

The West Chester Area Senior Center is a special place. Chester County Seniors are some of our most valuable resources and often are truly under served. The West Chester Area Senior Center has been and continues to be on a mission to change that. This is a place where seniors can meet with others, take advantage of so many programs, and get access to healthy food. The staff is second to none and with minimal hands so much gets done. This is in large part to the amazing volunteer community that makes Chester County so special. If you have never stopped by, please do. I was introduced to the West Chester Area Senior Center right before covid by a colleague of mine who asked for help in the kitchen to help serve lunch. Being a little intimidated by thought of serving over a large group of people, i was assured it would be a piece of cake, and they were right! They are super organized and everyone is happy to be there making it a very pleasant place to volunteer. I had a fabulous time meeting all these great people and helping out that I've also recruited other friends, colleagues and family members to all help out as well. You really see how your contribution directly impacts the people you help. Also I feel like i get to spend that time i missed with my own grandparents who lived in a different country and passed when i was younger.

I have volunteered with the WCASC for about two years now! I got in touch with them through The Abbé Society, a service organization that I am affiliated with at West Chester University. Those at the center work tirelessly to ensure a fun, safe, inclusive environment for all members and volunteers! They have paired up with multiple organizations and college programs, and the hospitality and communication with the center has been nothing but flawless. I have grown to love this community, and am so happy that I have the opportunity to volunteer with them as I look forward to coming every time!

I am a professor at the M. Louise Fitzpatrick College of Nursing at Villanova University. I have been bringing senior nursing students to the WCSC to conduct health promoting activities for over seven years. The students state that the experience at the WCSC is one of their best clinical experiences. They enjoy seeing vibrant seniors, engaged in physical activity, life-long learning, and socializing with their friends. The students conduct health education classes, blood pressure screening, physical strength screening, and write newsletters for the seniors. When the students conduct classes with the seniors, the audience is very inquisitive and stimulated to learn more about the topic. The students state that the WCSC is a “happy place.” One student stated, “the WCSC is an ideal place for seniors to enhance their quality of life. It is a place for strengthening your mind, body, and spirit. The WCSC has all of the programs we learn about in class to enhance the health of seniors.” I have had students who have decided that they wanted to work as patient educators in the community because of their experience at the WCSC.

The West Chester Senior Center is truly an organization that can reinvent themselves even under the extreme circumstances of our recent pandemic. When our Center had to be closed we went into "crisis mode" and began a food distribution program to feed our most needed seniors and then expanded it to a once in a week food distribution program that has served over 165,000 meals since Covid-19! We have now added a fully functioning food program know as the Corner Cabinet which will be able to serve our community and seniors for years to come. Truly remarkable staff and organization that has the best interest of our seniors!

An amazing organization servicing the senior community in the West Chester area. Through this tough Covid year, the WCASC continues to move forward with services and meals. Now, an amazing 150,000 to 170,000 meals have been served throughout this year. Throughout the Covid headwinds this organization has improved the facility with new flooring, security, convenience tools, and a designated food service area that will provide even better food opportunities. All these improvement will be recognized when the center opens its doors again. This organization is not sitting still!

I am so impressed with the level and variety of support the center provides to the senior community. Not one beat was missed during Covid and their true dedication was evident by how successfully they pivoted in 2020. I saw first hand a food distribution program developed overnight that fed up to 700 seniors weekly during the pandemic. The center provided 150,000 meals in the 12 months following the closure forced by COVID-19 in March 2020. They found creative ways to keep our beloved seniors engaged during the pandemic – not only food, but a new Pen Pal program, telephone assistance, outdoor walks, etc. Through the help of many volunteers, seniors can take exercise classes, get computer help, or just visit with friends. This non-profit provides tremendous value to our senior community and I am honored to be a part of its future.

But then came the pandemic and were some places closed their doors this phenomenal team took a minute and said how far can we open our doors to insure that seniors have all that they need provided to them safely and efficiently. Rain storms ,blazing heat and humidity never stopped them from collecting and distributing their weekly drive thru customers. Since they closed in March they have delivered over 32,000 meals to seniors in need. What an amazing feat. The center has been open for 45 years and has become a haven for so many seniors in the West Chester area. The management and employees are always ready to help with whatever your needs are. Can’t wait until it is open again.

WCASC is my home away from home since I retired 6 years ago. I love playing cards and socializing. They offer so many activities that everyone will find something they will enjoy. I have been on the Board of Directors for 4 years and enjoy volunteering my time for their fund raising events.

I have served with the Center for almost 10 years and have enjoyed every minute of being part of what this amazing organization does. 2020 has been no exception to the feats of greatness that this organization accomplishes year after year. In my mind the most tremendous of those feats was an Emergency Food Distribution Program that in its first four months, served 32,600 meals with the help of our small staff and many community partners and donors. I am proud to be part of an organization that even in the worst of times, they become a shining star for those seniors in need.

I have been affiliated with the Center, in one way then another, since 2006., and it is a fantastic service for the people of West Chester. I was never more impressed than I am with their efforts to continue the innovative delivery of services to seniors during the pandemic shutdown.

Watching the seniors enjoy the meals and the activities ( pre-Covid) has given me great joy. I have been involved for several years with WCASC’s annual fundraising event.

I know that the staff has been doing all they can during the pandemic to make sure none of their folks go hungry. Thank you guys for all that you do.

Serving our Seniors as a board member of the West Chester Area Senior Center has provided me with an up close view of how dedicated volunteers with excellent leadership can change the lives of our community. With the COVID crisis threatening the well being of so many, the West Chester Area Senior Center pulled out all the options available and brought hope and smiles to our seniors along with 36,000 meals! This is Community Action at its best.

West Chester Area Senior Center gives back to those who most need it. Serving more than 28,000 meals each year to thousands of seniors living below the poverty level, providing health checks, exercise classes and much more, WCASC delivers everyday through the efforts of more than 600 volunteers. There is a spirit that emanates from WCASC that can only be called “Goodness.”

I’m a recent board member. I am blown away at the services that the WCASC provides. Beyond the 42,000 meals it provided last year. Beyond the 3400+ seniors that enjoy the center. The center is a social, meals, wellness and information provider that serves such an important group of people. The dedication of the staff is like no other! Passion for their work does not describe how much they love their work. Through these uncertain and tough times the Center marches on servicing the community.

As a board member for the past three years it has been a pleasure and honor to be part of a Nonprofit community who has served our seniors for the past 45 years. This Center is built on a solid foundation of over 250 volunteers along with a dedicated staff and Board who truly believe in the motto "Enriching the lives of our senior neighbors through friendship, activities, education and nourishment". Due to COVID-19 it has been a challenge for all of us especially our seniors. Through dedication, commitment, donations and care, the Senior Center was able to keep it's promise to our seniors by providing an Emergency Food Distribution Program and distribute over 32,600 meals in just the first four months to seniors in need. This Senior Center is a Top-Rated Non-Profit program that continues to invest and re-invent themselves to better serve and provide for our senior community.

The West Chester area Senior Center is celebrating its 45th year of community service as a 501 (c)(3) organization this year I couldn't be more proud to be associated with this amazing organization. This center serves approximately 3,400 seniors every year. Last year alone the center served 42,000 meals. And this year with the challenges posed by the COVID crisis, the center has put out more than 50,000 meals since March of this year. The staff at the center are second to none. The small staff at the center are selfless and provide unbelievable care to our senior community. I can't thank this organization enough for the good they provide and I want to personally thank all who make this possible.

I have been affiliated with the West Chester Area Senior Center for the past year. I can't express strongly enough how impressed I am with this organization. I consider myself extremely fortunate to have had the opportunity to interact with the entire staff and many of the members. All at this Center live the mission of the organization to "Enrich the lives of our senior neighbors through friendship, activities, nourishment and education". I have seen this first hand time and time again. This organization not only provides tremendous services to our valued senior community, but also exemplifies the way a non-profit organization should be run. Over 3,400 seniors benefit from these services and more than 28,000 meals were served last year (many at little or no charge to the seniors). Over 14,000 program sessions are provided annually with the help of 425+ volunteers. If you are a senior looking for a place to make friends, exercise, play cards, learn something new, or just spend some time with others in a beautiful facility, please stop in and say hello.

I am simply amazed with how this non-profit has been able to help during this pandemic. In just 4 months, the center has been able to distribute over 32,600 meals to their seniors in need. Without the dedicated staff, volunteers and especially the community partners getting behind all of this, none of this could have been accomplished.

Great work by all!!

Being a part of the West Chester Area Senior Center is one of the most fulfilling roles I have played in my career. The Center's staff work tirelessly to provide a safe, enjoyable environment for our seniors. There is something for everyone there including exercise classes, health and wellness screenings and a plethora of programs that provide meaningful and engaging activities including cross generational opportunities for or members. When the global health crisis hit this year the Center pivoted from on-site meal service to weekly meal and food deliveries to hundreds of seniors in need. To date we have surpassed 28,000 meal deliveries since March with plans to continue to service this urgent need.

The WCASC is truly a home away from home for so many seniors in the West Chester area. Their mission and motto is," Enriching the lives of our senior neighbors through friendship, activities, education and nourishment." The terrific staff and large numbers of volunteers accomplish this mission every day. Without this organization, West Chester Seniors would not have the opportunity to socialize, have a meal prepared for them, get exercise, play cards, learn how to operate a computer, get assistance with Medicare issues, and see a friendly smile. WCASC is a tremendous community resource!

I have been involved with the West Chester Area Senior Center since 2003.

It is a fun and friendly spot for local seniors to spend the day! It is always bustling with people, smiles, and activity. From breakfast, lunch, and snacks, to exercise programs, to classes in everything from computers to languages, to just sitting quietly and enjoying a cup of coffee in the café, “The Center” is a warm and welcoming place. The Center also serves as an important information hub for seniors. There are in-person information and referral services available and we host AARP’s annual tax preparation services--my 90-year old Mom has taken advantage of this service for a few decades now!

The West Chester Area Senior Center lives its mission everyday…Enriching the lives of our senior neighbors through friendship, activities, education, and nourishment.

I’ve been connected with WCASC for several years. The facts that they welcome 3400 seniors each year, have served nearly 29,000 meals in 2018, and boasts more than 400 volunteers who gave nearly 31,000 hours are secondary to one thing... the WCASC offers friendship and a welcoming “place to be” for so many who may find themselves alone. A wide array of programs allow all members to participate in activities that interest them. A meal shared with others brings smiles to so many who might otherwise be eating alone. A small staff supports a large purpose and their dedication is evident every day. I am in awe of what is accomplished each and every day in this organization.

No senior left behind! I have witnessed the vitality, spirit and support members offer each other through meals, exercise and activities. The WCASC is not only a hub of activity EVERY day, but is a lifeline for so many who might not otherwise have a hearty meal each day. The resources available to members include assistance with tax prep, navigating the complicated world of insurance, health screenings, etc. An amazing staff juggles time, resources and of course, funding on a daily basis and still provide seamless, unparalleled programs.

The West Chester Area Senior Center is a much needed staple for Chester County's aging population. Nutritious meals, cognitive engagement, physical & cognitive exercise, access to tax & medical resources, and inter-generational activities are services seniors need to stay healthy and to retain quality of life. The WC Senior Center excels at offering ALL OF THIS AND MORE!

Just give a quick call to any of the area adult day care centers or assisted living communities to see how much this type of engagement would cost and the value of the WC Senior Center is immediately established. From foreign language classes, to exercise classes, hot meals, parties, outings, and more - the WC Senior Center has so much to offer.

The WC Senior Center is also extraordinarily effective in the stewardship of its funds. Much of the work performed at the Center is done on a volunteer basis - some of the volunteers give more than 2,000 hours/year (that's more than a full time job!)!

There are so many positive attributes about the WC Senior Center, I could go on for pages.... Suffice it to say it is a much-needed community resource that does a great job at providing for its participants.
