Mission: Our mission is to provide programs and resources that build the hopes, dreams, and futures of Imperial County foster children; and be a guiding source for successful transition into the adult world.
Programs: The results of researching effective programs culminated in what we believe is the proper prescription for our community and the youth served. Our approach is a comprehenisve, collaborative effort of services to ensure a successful transition to adulthood. Our current collaborators include but are not limited to Imperial County Department of Social Services, Probation Department, and Behavioral Health Services, as well as the Superior Court, Imperial Valley Colldge, Court appointed special Advocates, Child Abuse Prevention Council, Imperial Valley Regional Occupation Program, SURE Crisis Helpline, and Clinicas de Salud Del Pueblo, Inc. Program development focused on filling current gaps in services as well as enhancing the delivery of these services identified as most critical to successful transitioning. We believe that the young people from foster care have aspirations, strengths, and talents, and certainly the potential to become fully participating citizens who contribute in a variety of fields. We noted two significant issues in programs for transitioning foster youth. The first was the culture of low expectations for teens in foster care, and secondly the lack of accountability for their success or failure. Weissman & Associates Fostering Dreams is committed to treating the transitioning foster youth as subjects of their own preparation for adulthood. We must enable them to become independent thinkers and lifelong students who carve out their own paths to the future.
