Mission: We are a running community that honors the service and sacrifice of the u. S. Military by creating a support network for military members and their families, bridging the gap between military and civilian communities, and creating a living memorial for fallen military members.
Programs: The wear blue mile - the wear blue mile is a section of certain designated races that honors the service and sacrifice of the american military. Volunteers, often fellow military or families of the fallen service members, line a mile of the course holding large american flags. The names of the fallen service members are embroidered onto black ribbons that drape each flag. Leading up to the flags, posters are displayed with the photograph and name of each fallen military member whose flags are being held. The wear blue mile is a moving tribute to honor and humanize those who gave their lives for this country. In 2017 wear blue mile activation expanded from 6 races to 10 (67% growth) as part of a national strategy to grow wear blue programs. Additional paid staff, travel, and resources were added to accommodate the growth of this core program.
the gold star race program - gold star families are those who have a member who has made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. The gold star race program assists in the healing process of family members of fallen american military by providing access to races, as well as the training and support necessary to complete a wear blue endurance running event. Each participant receives race entry, airfare and accommodations, equipment, a certified coach and training plan, and support throughout the training and race experience. The athletes fallen service member is uniquely honored on the tribute wear blue mile. In 2017 the program expanded to two locations, seattle and washington d. C. This doubled the impact on gold star families and increased the familiarity with wear blues services within the community.
for the fighting / army 10-miler - this program brings six active duty service members to washington d. C. To run in the nations premier 10 mile race, the army 10-miler. Wear blue hosted these individuals in washington d. C. For the saturday wear blue circle of remembrance, a visit to arlington national cemetery to observe the changing of the guard, and participation in the 2017 army 10-miler on sunday october 8. Wear blue provided airfare, lodging, race weekend transportation, running shoes, running gear, a 10-miler training plan, and the mentorship of a senior military leader.
