Mission: The purpose of the wayside christian mission is to respond to human need of the poor and homeless by (1) providing temporary housing/shelter, food, clothing, nurturing, spiritual and social enrichment, encouragement, and referrals (2) and by providing the support services and skills that would permit and encourage a return to a state of self-sufficiency so that human dignity can be restored and the love of god can be shared.
Programs: To provide support services necessary to return the homeless to self-sufficiency. Through the hotel job training program the organization imparted job skills and training to nearly 100 women, many of whom then obtained jobs in the community and were able to move into their own apartments.
to provide basic necessities of food, shelter and clothing to the homeless. During the 2016 - 2017 fiscal year, the organization provided 520,412 meals and the following nights of lodging: men - 85,417; women - 32,050; and families - 20,367.
the in-house recovery program provides sober-living skills to many men and women whose homelessness resulted from their substance abuse issues. At any point in time, the organization has about 150 homeless men and women in the recovery program. Several women were reunited with their children as a result of successfully completing the program.
