I have been working with Washington Yu Ying (WYY) for 3 years now and I can tell you that they provide an unparallell education to their students. The full immersion program WYY operates has been paramount in achieving the academic success in both English and Chinese where WYY has exceeded educational goals from the start. The staff and board members at WYY are some of the most dedicated I have come across in my educational experience as a parent. Moreover, WYY is dedicated in providing the best education to it's students as demonstrated by it's implementation fo the the PYP (Primariy Years Program) and IB (International Baccheloriate) programs to model their educational curriculum. Finally, much of WYY's success resulted from their ability to procure volunteer participation for the school, whether it be to landscape nature investigation centers for students or clean and prepare the building for the new school year or special events. For all of these reasons, WYY should undoubtedly be rated the top non-profit in 2012.
We (Asian American LEAD) partnered with Yu Ying to hold a collaborative Field Trip for Yu Ying students and students from our After-School Program. It was a great experience for our students! The event was well planned and supervised and the culture at Yu Ying was clearly one of respect and support for students. Thanks Yu Ying!
Washington Yu Ying ("YY") is meets a critical need of great education for children in a local environment where that is scarce. Nationally, YY meets a critical need of America to broaden its horizons on education; it will become a model for decades or longer. This is because in addition to its superlative Mandarin immersion model it is a green, green food and education focused International Baccalaureate school. It is as much defined by its commitment to second language as it is to great education in general and world view that is progressive. YY emerged as a principled, passionate, entrepreneurial and scrappy organization that has succeeded against all odds achieving goals beyond each of its stages of growth. How? Hard work. Smart decisions. Incredible talent, vision and commitment of parents, volunteers, leadership of management and the board. The school inspires the best from its parents, kids and teachers. People involved with the school think, "Wow, what can I do to help?" And, they do. Parents landscape grounds, teachers marshal resources and management continues to face the challenges of growth firmly, with grace and determination. I've been a volunteer and witness to this phenomenal story. I can say this with full objectivity because I am involved with other schools as well so I can compare YY to other schools. YY stands out because of its approach to Mandarin immersion and education. It is the spirit and love for the school that marshals thousands of hours of support and a growing subscription list for the school. With all that said, education is the hardest business in the world, literally. That can't be overstated. Anyone who has traveled abroad understands this fact. Even with all the accomplishments YY has made, YY must strive for more and to keep on profoundly changing the lives of children its needs recognition and continued support such as that for a truly great non-profit! We hope that you will join us in acknowledging this about YY. Thank you.
