Causes: Arts & Culture, Opera
Mission: Washington concert opera presents less often performed operatic masterpieces in concert format that feature experienced and emerging artists, often in their role or local debuts.
Programs: Washington concert opera presented two rare masterpieces: massenets hrodiade and beethovens leonore, both of which featured some of today's most acclaimed opera stars and received praise from critics and audiences alike. A third main stage offering, the 30th anniversary concert, celebrated the companys three decades of programming and showcased bel canto favorites. Audiences throughout the season were highly enthusiastic and large in number. Additionally, wco presented several lectures for the general public, two pre-performance talks for ticket holders, and outreach programming for university students and young professionals. The organization also led private coaching and two masterclasses for young singers at area music schools, as part of its professional education initiative. Additional activities included an annual subscribers insights event, a winter gathering showcasing young local artists, and a spring gala featuring three emerging international opera stars.
