Causes: Children & Youth, Youth Development Programs
Mission: The wappingers crew club has been organized: 1. To financially support and promote the sport of rowing for students enrolled in the wappingers central school district public schools in an atmosphere that is consistent with the educational philosophy of wappingers central school district, parents, and the us rowing association; 2. To encourage and support the academic achievement of its student-athlete members; 3. To own, provide, and maintain equipment, including boats, oars, and other equipment, for the use of wappingers crew club; 4. To conduct fund-raising activities in support of the above purposes; 5. To promote amateur rowing in the hudson valley. Wappingers crew club will maintain relationships with local rowing associations and shall appoint, as needed, liaisons to such organizations; and 6. To embrace wappingers central school district students grades 7 through 12 of all faiths, races, economics means, gender, and circumstances.
Programs: The rowing program consists of a learn-to-row program in the fall, in which 51 students were introduced to the sport of rowing, and the spring program that provides training and allows rowers to participate in high school regattas. A total of 29 novice and 41 varsity rowers participated in 10 regattas.
wappingers crew club hosts an annual "row for the cure" regatta, a fundraiser for the greater new york city affiliate of susan g. Komen for the cure, which uses those funds to support research and provide breast cancer support services, screening and treatment.
