I was born and raised in the tight-knit community of Astoria, Queens. My parents worked tirelessly to provide for my two sisters and me. My father labored seven days a week, and my mother devoted herself to our home. While my childhood had its share of challenges, it was, for the most part, a good upbringing.
Sadly, at an early age, I turned to alcohol as a means of escape. By the tender age of 15, I had become a parent, and my life took a dark turn. I spiraled into the abyss of full-blown alcoholism, with daily drinking becoming the norm. This destructive pattern persisted for 20 long years, bringing me to the brink of despair. At that juncture, I contemplated giving up on life altogether, leaving behind my three children and two grandchildren.
Just when darkness seemed all-encompassing, a beacon of hope appeared in the form of Voodoo Misfits, Inc., a nonprofit organization. They selflessly donated over $15,000 to provide me with the essential treatment and support that I so desperately needed. Their act of kindness was unlike anything I had ever experienced in my life. It granted me a second chance, a chance I was determined not to squander.
Today, I am incredibly grateful to report that I have been 391 days sober. I've not only overcome my addiction but have also found stability through steady employment. In addition, I'm pursuing higher education and have earned a place on the president's list and in the honor society. I am actively involved in the lives of my children and grandchildren, something I couldn't have imagined during my darkest days. Most importantly, I have become the son that my parents always hoped I could be, free from the clutches of alcohol.
The transformation I've undergone is a testament to the remarkable support provided by Voodoo Misfits, Inc. Their generous donations allowed me to stand here today, stronger, more resolute, and filled with gratitude for the second chance they granted me. I'm now ready to face whatever life throws my way. Without their unwavering support, my future might have been bleak. I extend my heartfelt appreciation to Voodoo Misfits, Inc., not only for giving me a second chance but for reuniting me with my family. Thank you from the depths of my heart.
My daughter and I were in an abusive relationship when we met Voodoo Misfits. He happened to see it first hand, almost immediately this non profit organization put a plan in place to get me and my daughter out of California and relocated to Kansas City. They were VERY committed to ensuring our safety and discretion. As we started our trip to KC they were with me and my 8 year old daughter every step of the way to make sure we made it safely when my tire blew out they were able to help get us back on the road. When we arrived they helped us secure housing and paid our rent for a year to help us get established in our new life. To be honest people like Voodoo misfits do not come around everyday. My daughter and I are doing amazing now 6 months later! Voodoo misfits non profit still keeps in contact with us for updates, they are our family now! Every state we crossed my daughter and I felt a weight being lifted off our shoulders and we couldn’t have achieved what we have without Voodoo Misfits nonprofit organization. This organization has a friend/family/volunteer for life!!!! THANK YOU VOODOO MISFITS INC ❤️
I have seen this nonprofit go above and beyond to help individuals in need. Voodoo Misfits recently did everything possible to help a family have a smooth transition relocating during a hard time. They continue to help serve the community in many ways.
This nonprofit goes above and beyond for the people they help! I would truly recommend this nonprofit to anyone!
