Mission: To provide essential transportation to health, social, and other destinations for north country residents who have no other transportation alternatives.
Results: The Volunteer Transportation Center, Inc. has expanded from Jefferson County to Lewis and St. Lawrence Counties in New York. Recently, a volunteer driver program was established in New Hampshire. The growth of the program resulted in over 5.5 million miles of transport in 2016. This good work is completed by a crew of over 250 certified volunteer drivers.
Programs: The organization provides transportation services to individuals who have no other means of transportation, elderly, blind or visually impaired, and low income residents of jefferson, lewis, and st. Lawrence counties for critical needs; such as, medical and dental appointments, dialysis treatments, alzheimer's day care, pharmacies, support groups, therapy, counseling and groceries. The organization relies on volunteers using their own vehicles to transport individuals. These volunteers are reimbursed for their mileage. During the current year these volunteers recorded approximately 4,688,000 miles.
