Causes: Environment, Environmental Education
Mission: Training educators regarding virginia's natural resources and environmental management, including restoration of the chesapeake bay.
Programs: Bay education: as the organization designated as virginia's education implementation team for epa's chesapeake bay program, the council provides bay education to classroom teachers, science lead teachers, administrators, and community educators to provide watershed education to students. This year we provided training for approximately 300 educators at development workshops through the watershed educators institute and the annual environmental education conference. We conducted 4 "mountains to the bay academies" for approximately 120 teachers. We conducted 4 workshops for approximately 50 school principals. The council also provides funds to schools and educational agencies to conduct meaningful watershed investigations per the chesapeake bay 2014 agreement.
environmental education coordination: the council coordinates efforts between its members and other partners involved in providing environmental education programs and access to educational resources to enhance better understanding of virginia's environmental issues. We accomplished this through 2 annual work meetings including an updated annual work plan and a strategic plan aimed at increasing environmental literacy in the commonwealth. Approximately 1,200 governmental or private organizations participate in the virginia naturally education network (see www. Vanaturally. Com) which is supported by the council.
