Causes: Human Services
Mission: Our program is for those that have been ordered by the court and/or required to attend as they work their way through the criminal justice system. In order to legitimize VIP, legislation was passed in 1990, which allowed Oklahoma judges to order DUI offenders to attend a victim impact panel in which they would hear in-person the testimonies of those who have been directly affected by someone’s choice to drive under the influence. It is not intended to be “punishment” for the DUI offender but rather a “wake-up call” about the consequences of bad choices.
Target demographics: Stop impaired and distracted driving
Direct beneficiaries per year: 6000+ clients, 2000+ students, 1000+ first responders and service members
Geographic areas served: Oklahoma
Programs: Conducted numerous panels for offenders and students where victims of alcohol related accidents share their experiences in an attempt to change driver behavior.
