I spent ten weeks volunteering full-time with the VRLC in the Portland, Oregon office and enjoyed every moment! I spent my times doing research for their Technical Assistant program as well as working on a presentation for the National Sexual Assault Conference.

The VRLC is a phenomenal organization that approaches sexual assault work in holistic way. Their goal of helping victims in multiple areas--such as housing, education, public benefits, and immigration--is a unique model that actually addresses the complexity of sexual assault and its impact on victims. In addition, the VRLC trains people who are working with victims everyday, such as advocates at crisis centers, to identify legal problems in order to better assist their clients.

Volunteering with the VRLC was not only an amazing learning experience, but also incredibly fun. The attorneys are passionate about the work, and their dedication and expertise makes volunteering with the VRLC a very special experience that I would recommend to anyone.

I was a volunteer attorney at the VRLC for three months and provided assistance in several of the VRLC's practice areas including education, housing and immigration. I conducted intake interviews. I analyzed whether universities were meeting their Title IX obligations. I represented a client at a Boston Housing Authority hearing who was denied DV/dating violence/stalking priority status. I also prepared a client for her restraining order hearing. Finally, I assisted in the preparation of an application for permanent residency for a U-visa client.

The VRLC is an extraordinary organization. The work is interesting and the staff is incredible to work with. I learned so much in a short amount of time. Most importantly, before working at the VRLC I didn't know that I was interested in education related work, but I now am extremely interested in pursuing work in this area. I feel extremely lucky to have volunteered at the VRLC and I hope one day in the future I can reconnect with the organization.

As an organization, this nonprofit is great in large part because of the staff. VRLC staff are passionate about what they do and the clients they serve, and they all work tirelessly to help in any way they can.

As a volunteer for the organization, I was given meaningful work and learned so much in a short period of time as a result. VRLC staff take the time to work with you in order to ensure you feel prepared.

The VRLC is focused on its core mission of providing support to sexual assault victims. It understands the key role volunteers play in serving that mission, uses volunteers' time wisely, and provides a great deal of support and resources. Volunteers looking to aid sexual assault victims - and particularly lawyers looking to offer pro bono legal services - could not find a better provider to work with!

I have been volunteering with this organization for several months. The VRLC does amazing work for sexual assault survivors! The training they offer attorneys is second to none. During my time volunteering for them I've learned about representing victims of sexual assault, the impact of sexual assault on victims, and the emerging areas of law dealing with sexual assault. This is simply a fantastic organization that does much needed work for sexual assault survivors.
