Mission: Urban dreams serves primarily residents of an economically distressed area in des moines, iowa. It is a non-traditional information and referral source and operates a variety of programs to reduce disproportionately high rates of minority contact with the juvenile and adult criminal justice systems, include substance abuse treatment, ex-offender support, and high risk youth programs.
Programs: Urban children are really essential (ucare). Funded by the us department of justice office of justice programs. The program works in the local communities with local populations to develop and implement programs that will reduce minority youths' disproportionately high rates of contact with the juvenile system and disproportionately high rates of school suspensions and expulsions. Substance abuse treatment. An outpatient substance abuse treatment program that offers assessment, individual and group counseling and aftercare support for adults and juveniles. The program includes the culturally competent treatment program (cctp) project of the iowa department of publich health to provide outpatient services tailored to african-american culture. Healthy start operates in conjunction with visiting nurses services to offer pre-natal support to low income expectant mothers and their children, so that the children will get a healthy start in life.
