Mission: Our mission is to share the love of god in work, action, and attitude while building genuine community in the neighboorhood where we live and work. Our vision is to establish a network of partnerships among individuals and families; restoring genuine community.
Programs: Kids connection purpose: helping children play with others in a safe environment, learn about themselves and the world around them, grow in character and citizenship, and serve our neighbors and the community at large. We serve children and youth from the west end community of san antonio. There are approximately 3,472 children and youth between the ages of 5 and 17. We enrolled 269 unduplicated children. We average 42 children per day during the school year and 72 during the summer. Program offerings include a game center, homework center, computer center, dance, drama, percussion, open gym, jewelry making, arts & crafts, rotengo (road tennis). Roll models, (a mentoring program that is centered around bicycles and anything that rolls). Outdoor adventures offers camping, fishing, canoeing and other outdoor activities. In addition we offer the peaceful solutions character education classes.
family resource connection: a safe, accepting place where individuals and familiess discover and use their assets, and access opportunities from a holistic network of support. We completed over 1200 houurs of community service in san antonio through our time dollar/urban angles porrram. Our resource center is a central gathering place for our neighbors to volunteer, socialize and support one another. We provide a 'time banking' program for our neighbors to serve each other and the community and earn 'time dollars' which they are able to exchange for services for themselves.
community connection - establishes relationships with other ministries and social services to better serve the neighborhood. We provide opportunities for neighbors to interact, volunteer, celebrate, worship, and work together for the good of all creating our community voice. Urban connection has taken a leadership role in a grass roots neighborhood organization called 'west end hope in action' which is made up of neighbors, churches, social service agencies and city and housing agencies working together to make the neighborhood a better place to live. We served over 700 neighbors participated in national night our event, adopt a park and neighborhood beautification projects.
