Mission: Upstate Guide Dogs, founded in 1992, recruits families to raise puppies who will become guide dogs for people who are blind or visually impaired. We provide early obedience training for the puppies before they enter Upstate's kennels to begin their formal training at fourteen months. UGDA trains people who are blind with a guide dog in their home neighborhood. This is ideal for people with jobs, families or complex medical conditions that make it difficult to attend a residential school for as long as four weeks. A guide dog gives a person who is blind the chance to live a full and complete life.
