Mission: Our focus is long-term and is based on the idea that this is a partnership. The design of the Sahana Project reflects a commitment to a reciprocal relationship between donors and beneficiaries. The 31 families of Kalamitiya will be connected to the communities that raise funds for the rebuilding of their homes. The 38 children will, similarly, be linked to schools in the US. After the rebuilding is complete, we will move to phase three which is to facilitate cross-cultural exchanges that are not based on financial donations. The guiding principle behind the project is that while money can do a lot, goodwill can achieve a lot more. The project has an intensive educational component, with presentations to donor communities on the culture and history of Sri Lanka. Conversely, the people of Kalamitiya are learning about the people who are helping them rebuild.
