Mission: Informing the public of safe boating practices via courses, inspections and seminars. Educate the membership in advanced navigation skills and safety, and promote civic services and fraternal activities.
Programs: Member education objectives are to improve navigation skills for inshore and offshore navigation. We offer courses on piloting, advanced piloting, celestial navigation, marine electrical communication and navigation systems, weather science, cruise planning, sailing, marine mechanics, and other course seminars.
public education includes courses and seminars for the public. Our main objective is to educate the public on basic boating skills for safe navigation and enjoyment of public waters. Seminars open to the public include power boating, handling, anchoring, basic coastal navigation, weather forcasting, use of nautical charts, hurricanes and boats, knots, compass, radar, rules of the road, sailing, trailering, using a gps,and vhf/dsc.
civic services activities which benefit the community including vessel inspections to certify that the water craft are in safe and operational condition. Also included is cooperative charting which is an agreement with noaa to conduct surveys on nautical chart conditions, coastal pilot publications, aids to navigation, depth measurements, small craft facilities, and other similar investigations. We report results to the nos/noaa and the us coast guard.
