Mission: United financial counselors is a non-profit organization founded to reduce the number of bankruptcy filings, foreclosures, repossessions, lawsuits and garnishments in the southern district of florida. This is done through programs that include, but are not limited to: financial coaching, foreclosure prevention counseling, home-buyer education, and financial literacy seminars/workshops.
Programs: United financial counselors (u. F. C. ) is organized to help consumers and homeowners break their dependence on debt and to help enrich their lives through financial independence. The organization conducted 39 seminars throughout the 2014 fiscal year, in which 1,502 participants attended. These seminars covered foreclosure prevention, first time home-buying education and financial literacy. Most of the seminars were in partnership with the cities of south florida (city of miramar, hollywood, north miami, etc. ) u. F. C. Provided one-on-one assistance to 803 homeowners through their foreclosure mitigation program, 51 tenants (regarding tenant/landlord issues), and met with 810 first time home-buyers to prepare them for home- ownership, budgeting courses, and down payment assistance counseling. Of the participants that utilized the one-on-one assistance, 84. 5% where under the areas' median income, according to hud guidelines of 2014.
