Mission: The Union Literary Institute Preservation Society (ULIPS) is an Indiana non-profit dedicated to promote and preserve the historical character, associations, and architecture of the Grenville Negro Settlement/Longtown in Greens Fork Township, Randolph County Indiana and in Liberty Township, Darke County, Ohio.
Results: With a destination attraction, the Society can further develop the site to tell its unique story; this can develop in tandem with interpretation of the Clemens farmhouse as a memorial to the Greenville community, a black pioneer settlement, as well as the potential for coordinated programming with the Levi Coffin State Historic Site to relate how the school and community were intertwined with the Underground Railroad. Both the Clemens Farmstead and the ULI are recognized by the National Park Service as UGRR sites. The Clemens Farmstead is on the National Register and the NR nomination of national significance for the ULI as an Archeological Site will be held in April 2018.
