Programs: Unicode localization interoperability technical committee:----------------------------------------------------------the unicode localization interoperability technical committee (uli) works to ensure interoperable data interchange of critical localization-related assets, including: 1) translation memory to ensure the consistency of translated content, accelerate the speed of translation, and reduce the cost of repeated translation requests; 2) segmentation rules to define the way to segment text for translation or other text processing. The rules are used with translation memory to create memory segments or matches within the source content of existing translation memories; 3) translated source strings and their translations that preserving any text markup.
unicode technical committee:----------------------------the unicode technical committee (utc) is responsible for the standardization of natural language writing systems through the development and maintenance of the unicode standard, including the unicode character database, as well as unicode technical reports and standards. As appropriate, the utc releases new versions, updates, and errata to its data and documentation. Accomplishments in 2017 include the version 10. 0 release of the unicode standard, which continued the consortium's long-term commitment to support the full diversity of languages around the world with the addition of 4 new writing systems and more than 8,500 new characters to support the languages of south asia, china, and japan. New pictographic symbols, including 56 emoji, were added for expanded use on mobile devices.
unicode common locale data repository project:----------------------------------------------the unicode common locale data repository (cldr) locales project provides key building blocks for software to support the world's languages, with the largest and most extensive standard repository of locale data available. This data is used by a wide spectrum of companies and open source providers for software internationalization and localization, adapting software to the conventions of different languages for common software tasks such as number formatting, the translated names of months, days, and languages, and time zone information. Accomplishments in 2017 include two releases of the cldr repository: 31 and 32. Together these two releases bring robust coverage to 180 languages.
international components for unicode:-------------------------------------a new project was added in 2017: international components for unicode (icu), a set of software programming libraries (c/c++ and java) that provide unicode and internationalization support for software applications. Icu is widely portable and gives applications the same results on all platforms and between c/c++ and java software. Icu is released under a nonrestrictive open source license that is suitable for use with both commercial software and with other open source or free software.
