Mission: The organization's vision and mission is to use education as a means to transform the neighborhoods of dorchester and to equip all students we serve with the attitude, skills and experience to graduate from college and positively impact their community.
Programs: Preventionprevention program includes early education and out of school time, both licensed by ma dept of early education & care. Students between the ages of 3 months and 6 years spend approximately 40 hours each week in class, approximately 30 hours of which is devoted to building developmental skills through creative play and age-appropriate activities, and 10 hours of which is spent on literacy activities. Students between the ages of 6 and 13 years attend year-round out of school time program , from 1:30 to 6:00 pm during the school year and from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm during school breaks and summer vacation. Students in the ost program spend a minimum of 60% of their time on academic support, including intensive homework assistance and tutoring, reading, writing, numeracy, and science exploration. Other activities include educational field trips, conflict resolution skill building, recreational and visual and performing arts activities.
intervention program- college connections the program provides disconnected youth, aged 14 to 27, with intentional interventions to prepare them for college, by getting them back on track to success and deterring them from high risk behaviors, engaging criminal activity, and dependency on social services. The program serves students through four focused tracks: alternative education for middle school students who are over-age for their grade, failing courses and unlikely to advance to high school; mentoring support for traditional high school youth who are still enrolled in school but are at risk of dropping out; instruction and support for students who have dropped out or have been pushed out of high school and need to attain their ged; and esol classes to help students who face significant barriers to educational success due to being english language learners. The two key college connections program components are academic skill building and social-emotional support. For students currently in school, the program engages with each participant for five to seven hours per week. Students who are out of school are engaged for a minimum of 25 hours per week.
alternative education programthe alternative middle school provides 15 middle school students who have academic and truancy issues in a boston public school the opportunity to enroll in a smaller classroom setting with one-on-one teacher assistance. Students at the alternative middle school are dual-enrolled at boston public schools throughout the city, but attend all their classes at little house. The alternative middle school offers a supportive, safe atmosphere where classroom instruction is individualized. The classroom curriculum incorporates interdisciplinary, thematic units of study.
