Mission: The unclaimed property professionals organization (uppo) is a not-for-profit organization that is the premier resource for unclaimed property information, education, networking and advocacy for the private sector. The vision of uppo is to be the leader in unclaimed property compliance and reform.
Programs: Education:uppo offers a variety of educational events for both members and non-members. Its three main educational events include webinars, regional education seminar and annual conference with membership business meeting. Webinars: uppo began offering webinars in december 2009. Webinars are conducted for a registration fee as well as complimentary as a member benefit and to recruit new members. During fiscal year 2013-2014, $6,889 in income was earned with a corresponding expense of $5,620 for the net revenue of $1,269. As part of uppo's strategic plan, webinars are to be conducted at least once per fiscal year quarter. The "virtual learning" committee creates the topics and content to help grow this area. Regional education seminars: uppo has been offering regional education seminars for the past nine years. In fiscal year 2013-14, the regional conference was held in chicago, il. The purpose of the regional conference is to offer two tracks of education for unclaimed property professionals; basic and intermediate. Some of the subject matter included: -unclaimed property essentials -due diligence -unclaimed property compliance program -unclaimed property auditsin addition, there is a small exhibitor area that generates some additional revenues. In fiscal year 2013-2014, there were 98 attendees at the regional education seminar. The seminar had ten exhibits, and the net income from the seminars was $12,803. Annual conference: uppo has conducted an annual conference which is typically a three-day educational event that provides in-depth education and training for unclaimed property professionals. In addition, there is also an exhibitor area. In fiscal year 2013-2014 the annual conference had 18 exhibits and 611 attendees. The annual conference had a net income of $194,394 for the year, which is a $11,000 decrease from the previous year. As with the regional education seminars, there are tracks based on level of experience; basic, intermediate and advanced.
