Dr. Tadios Belay does an amazing job in in leading the U.S. Africa Institute and helping to promote African Diaspora engagement and supporting underserved students in the U.S. thru University partnerships in both African countries and the United States. In 2022 I was honored to support the U.S. Africa Institute by hosting the Mandela Fellows representing over 38 African countries and to also see them honored by Councilman Curran Price at City Hall. I had an excellent experience with the U.S. Africa Institute. This impactful organization works to strengthen democratic processes and improve the quality of higher education and human rights in Ethiopia, South Sudan, and broader East Africa. Additionally, the U.S.-A Institute is forging excellent partnerships with government and non-government sectors to improve the quality of life. Dr. Tadios Belay, the president of the U.S.-A Institute, and Julia, the director of International Programs, are wonderful people to engage with and very supportive. I find them to be easily accessible and willing to work together with any potential partners. I'm glad to have met them! -OKC

I am immensely proud of the strides U.S. Africa Institute has made in addressing educational inequity and fostering academic and cultural exchanges between the United States and African institutions. Our mission to enhance academic collaboration, promote cultural diplomacy, and support capacity building in African educational institutions aligns with the global goals of fostering mutual understanding and development.

Over the years, we have successfully facilitated numerous exchange programs, including the Fulbright Program, Mandela Washington Fellowships, and the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP). These initiatives have provided invaluable opportunities for students, educators, and professionals from both regions to share knowledge, develop skills, and build lasting relationships.

Our strategic partnerships with institutions such as California State University, U.S. Department of Education, U.N., African Union, Howard University, Texas A&M, Kotebe University of Education, University of Ghana, University of Juba, African Development University, Catholic University of Eastern Africa, Charles Drew University of Medicine and Science and many more have been pivotal in driving our mission forward. These collaborations have enabled us to support internationalization efforts, enhance digital infrastructure, and promote leadership training, thereby empowering the diaspora community in the U.S. and building the capacity of African institutions to thrive in an interconnected world.

Moreover, our commitment to public and cultural diplomacy is evident through our engagement with the U.S. Department of State and local elected officials. By organizing dialogues, cultural activities, and community events, we have fostered a deeper understanding of the issues pertinent to both the U.S. and Africa, strengthening the bonds between diaspora communities and their home countries.

The U.S. Africa Institute is also at the forefront of leveraging technology to facilitate virtual exchanges and online learning. Our collaboration with the Steven Initiatives and promotion of Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) programs exemplify our dedication to innovative and accessible education.

In addition to our educational initiatives, we actively seek funding from government grants, private foundations, and corporate sponsors to support our programs. This financial backing has been crucial in ensuring the sustainability and impact of our projects.

Looking ahead, we are committed to continuing our work in addressing academic inequities for traditionally underrepresented students, promoting academic exchange, and fostering cultural understanding. Our efforts are aligned with the African Union's Agenda 2063 and other regional frameworks, ensuring that we contribute meaningfully to the African diaspora and the Africa continent's long-term development goals.

U.S. Africa Institute stands as a beacon of excellence in fostering U.S.-Africa relations through education, cultural exchange, public diplomacy, people to people relations, and capacity building. As we continue to grow and evolve, I am confident that our initiatives will leave a lasting impact on the communities we serve and the world at large.
