Causes: Health, Specifically Named Diseases
Mission: Together we are stronger against the relentless challenges of Type 1 Diabetes offering support, resources, and knowledge to the children and families affected by this chronic disease. We promise to be a beacon of strength for those in our community and will continue to fight until we find the cure.
Target demographics: Type 1 diabetics and their families, and the school corporations
Direct beneficiaries per year: Supplied schools in Vigo and Vermillion Counties with emergency low blood sugar response kits, diabetic testing supplies, fast acting carb snacks and juice. Supplied140 school buses with emergency low blood sugar response kits. We sent 6 children to diabetes summer camp. We paid over $1000 for insulin for type 1's who could not afford it.
Geographic areas served: Vigo, Parke, Clay and Vermillion counties
Programs: Education seminars, awareness, transportation, financial and emotional support. We also started the Golden Bandaid Award to recognize local school nurses and health assistants for their hard work in caring for our children.
