Mission: Turning point is a community based organization located in sunset park and red hook that provides holistic support services to all of brooklyn. Our mission is to strengthen brooklyn by offering education, health, and social services that serve as a source of hope and empowerment for the under served and individuals in need. The company works with disconnected youth, families in crisis, the homeless, substance abusers, the unemployed, persons infected with and affected by hiv, adult non-readers and non-english speaking immigrants. The company provides direct services to more than 12,000 people in brooklyn each year, and reaches more than 20,000 people through education and outreach programs.
Programs: Scattered site housing - this program provides permanent supportive housing for people living with hiv/aids and for pre and post-treatment substance users. Services offered include assessments, treatment plans, counseling, monitoring, support groups and referrals. This program was funded by new york city hiv/aids services administration, the new york city department of health and mental hygiene and the new york state office of alcoholism and substance abuse. The program closed at june 30, 2017.
education center - this program offers free adult basic education/high school equivalency and english classes, counseling, college and career support services, and the high school equivalency test. These services are funded by new york state education department, new york city department of youth and community development, robin hood foundation, altman foundation and new york community trust.
the exodus program - this program provides medically supervised outpatient chemical dependency treatment to people with alcohol and substance abuse issues as well as support for their loved ones. Services offered include counseling and support for family and friends and relapse prevention for individuals. The program was funded by new york state office of alcoholism and substance abuse services, medicaid and private insurance. The program closed at june 30, 2017.
