Working at TYLA, you really learn to empathize with the clients. They are not just clients, or files, but real people struggling through challenging events in their lives.

I learned from example of other volunteers, interns, employees and the directors how to show that I care and understand what I can do to help.

Turn Your Life Around is constantly recognized as being a 'caring' facility compared to the rest. Clients come back even when they are finished with their classes to visit, deliver gifts and express their gratitude.

TYLA is truly a warm and comfortable place to be yourself and recover from your unhealthy life habits.

Turn Your Life Around is a very comfortable and welcoming environment that invites everyone in. This non profit has very friendly, outgoing, and helpful interns that always are there for clients who come in. TYLA has a wide variety of services and always does their BEST to accommodate and help out the clients at their needs. I love how there is a thrift store right when you walk in. The thrift store is available to everyone and is a donation process. I think this non profit is a great place to get the help you need because of how easy-going the interns make it on the clients (no pressures). If anyone I knew was looking for services of this type I would 100% recommend Turn Your Life Around.

I've been working for TYLA for about a month now, and it has been a very fun, interesting and rewarding experience. Interacting with clients and helping them with their responsibilities has been educating on both ends. TYLA even has a thrift shop that helps many people every day. People can come in looking for clothes and shoes and other necessities for a low cost, or nothing at all. I'm learning a lot, and working with a bunch of helpful, friendly interns as well. I'm proud to say I work for such a caring and helpful organization.

Turn Your Life Around offers a friendly approach to individuals who have struggled against the law. They offer understanding and professional advice, which allows for their clients to leave as better individuals than they were when they walked in. The staff from top to bottom aims to succeed in their goal of making the world a better place. Seeing first hand the impact that the staff has on their clients has been quite the pleasure. Not only does the staff treat their clients very professionally, but they also offer an approach that sees their clients being treated as friends or family to the TYLA staff. Clients seem eager to come back to further themselves with their respected topics. I have not seen something quite like TYLA, but this experience has helped me enormously.

Letter received from Peer-Support Client on 12/23/14:

"I would like to thank you for having my back today in court. Nobody has ever had my best interest like you did. I really appreciate you taking time out of your busy schedule, that means a lot to me. I'm really looking forward to working with you and helping me put my fatal mistakes behind me. I won't let us down, I can honestly say you have given me the tools to becoming something other than an addict running the streets and it is also a wonderful feeling knowing that when I step out of prison I will have my life heading in the right direction. I can truly say you're the angel I have been praying for. Thank you Mr. Steele for caring enough to help a struggling addict as myself to recovery. I will write to you when I get to Alhambra, letting you know what yard I'm on if my calculations are right I will have six to seven months, so lets not waste no more time, lets capture the mind so I can do what is right.

Sincerely, Mr. Eric T"

Don't be fooled by the previous reviews. TYLA is lock step with the courts and will throw you under the bus first chance they get, at least in my expirence. They talk down to clients mainly because they understand that everything is court ordered and they got you in a rock in a hard place. People where nodding off in groups and the whole deal seemed like a racket to get your money. TYLA is working hand in hand with using the court system to reap profits and not about truly helping people stay sober. As long as that money is paid every session then the machine keeps a rollin. I pray things improve but I won't be referring anyone here.

TYLA is an amazing organization. I work here as an intern, and I can honestly say that I have seen the people here make significant differences in their clients' lives. The employees and counselors make honest connections and really do want to help people in need get back up and make improvements to their lives. TYLA offers many services that help people find new outlooks on life and make changes for the better. I believe TYLA has had a huge impact on the community of Tucson and will continue doing so in the future. TYLA gives hope to people who thought they had none. The organization is really living up to its name, helping people to "turn their lives around."

This agency has the highest of integrity that I have ever known, they empower our clients to believe in themselves, they set an example of what is like to succeed if you have the right attitude and have resources, I call them our Guardian Angels , they help you with everything they got starting with a kind and warm welcome when you walk in their office, if you need something and they don't have it they find a way to get it. Tucson should be very proud to have TYLA as a non Profit agency to help out our community. thank you Martha Hunnicutt

Turn your life around is a non profit group here in my community.I first saw the story in the newspaper on how a recovered addict was helping people who are where she once was. She was stepping beyond herself and leaving her comfort zone for something to important. That tyoe of dedication pulled at my heart and I went in to see if i could volunteer. She was just getting off the ground, we had clothes everywhere, people everywhere, questions everywhere and even no air conditioning there for a minute! Everyone pulled through and worked so hard together. Cheryl and her team made things come together and in so many ways. They are a support groups, out patient rehab services, clothing programs and so much more for people who really need it. Everything donated is put in the store and sold in order to fund all the services they provide. With drugs being such a problem in our community as well as the rest of the nation, it's more than just positive to have such programs for people, it's essential. Even saving one person and showing them a better way would be worth everything they sacrificed and have done for others. Each day that passes another person walks through the doors for a friendly smile, a helping hand, hope and love. You have that at TYLA. This is a program worth supporting in anyway you can. I know it's hard to give when your thinking the money will be spent on something other than your donating for. It 100 % all to TYLA and the people it serves. This place has an address not PO Box, they are there when you walk through the door. Real people, real hearts and real hope.

My name is Dyan Norleet and I have been a volunteer off & on since they started..I have had the privilege of seeing them go from a small agency to one of the best in Tucson AZ, I have brought friends, family there for help, in donations, attending classes and counseling..I have always found them to be kind, supportive, helpful and always very caring..if they don't have the answer, they either find it or create it!! There was a time when I was very sick due to a treatment, and need help...they were there the next day, with what I needed and installed it..I always see "friends of TYLA" stopping by to bring donations, sharing how great their lives are going, and staff always has time to listen & support(no appt needed to show caring, & support) The staff there are well-trained and offer excellent services...I recommend to everyone to go there!! I am a professional therapist who is unable to work with over 20 yrs of experience, it is without hesitation that I say, they are the best in the community, and have brought so much to Tucson!! TYLA always helps!!!

I have only been interning at TYLA for a short time, however during my weeks here I have seen their positive impact. I have had the pleasure of leading some of the recovery group meetings hosted by TYLA as well as participating in the peer to peer counseling. In doing this I have been able to teach people how to search for jobs, enroll in programs to recieve assistance in decreasing overwhelming financial debt, and most importantly achieve a lifestyle of sobriety they had thought to be impossible. TYLA has played, and continues to play, a crucial role in bettering the lives of Tucson's community. I feel lucky to be a part of such a wonderful program.

I have been an advisor with Turn Your Life Around since they opened in 2007. I have seen the program grow and wintnessed the staff's care and support. The client's tell me repeatedly how much TYLA has done for them, and how they have needed them in their recovery. They need funding for their program to grow, and work on resources to help them with this continually. They are simply understaffed. The staff does whatever it takes to keep their small agency going. I work in a half way house where often inmates arrive with nothing more than what they are wearing, most have lost contact with friends and some come to us from other states and do not have any familiy close by or do not have any money and they have to find work withing 15 days of arriving to our program or they risk going back to prison. TYLA has been the place where our clients can go to recovery meetings, they offer peer to peer recovery support groups, they offer clothing giveaway, they offer employment services and job training services, and they offer bus passes also help them obtain birth certificates when needed and they give them 12 step books to the ones who need them, and other miscellaneous needs, but what I really admire of this agency is the integrity and the heart the staff have for all the clients that come into their agency, they greet you with a smile and shake your hand they treat you like you are someone who is an important person, they give our clients 2 bags full of stuff and they invited them to come to the meetings to give them support in their recovery, I take 2 to 4 clients every Tuesday to get clothes females and males and they always treat us with kindness and respect this agency is a small store the treatment section is in the back, when our indigent clients first arrive to our center they are afraid of what they may or may not do right, but knowing that there are people out there who is willing to give them support it does make a difference to them. This agency is truly a great resource of support for those who have nothing material and need to get better so they can take care of their family, they know how to inspire hope they always seem to know when speaking to our clients when to say something and when to just hear them out, they are so humble and helpful you can always tell when someone has real desire to help you and they do

I recently started volunteering at TYLA and it has been an experience different than any other I have been a part of. I have participated in AA meetings as well as one on one meeting’s with people who have received DUI's. Volunteering in a place like TYLA gives you the opportunity to meet new people and listen to the different experiences people have gone through. The people who walk through the door come for various reasons, some they realize it's time they need to change their life, and others just want to be listened to. John is a great listener and knows what just to say to the visitor or client. I have learned the techniques on how to talk to people who come because of alcohol or drug abuse. In the AA meetings people are very open and that helps you get a better understand what people go threw to land in the situations they are in. I was able to relate in these meetings because growing up I had a dad who abused alcohol and drugs. In consequence of him being an abuser my siblings and I would experience domestic violence. Some of the people who attend the AA meetings have been attending these meetings for years and they have advised me on ways I can move on and drop the bag of pain I have been caring around with me for years. TYLA is a small location but is filled with a great staff, volunteers, and personals that make this experience worthwhile.
