Mission: The mission of transitions family violence services is to build safe and healthy families on the virginia peninsula by providing services to adult and child victims of domestic violence. We work to increase awareness by providing education, prevention programming and opportunities for community members to participate in our mission.
Programs: Shelter services: the organization operates two housing programs, emergency shelter (undisclosed location) and transitional housing for adults and children fleeing domestic violence. The emergency shelter offers a trauma-informed supportive environment focused on healing. Survivors can access care coordination, counseling, safety planning and community resources. The staff work with clients to set goals, overcome challenges and barriers and develop skills to increase self-sufficiency. In fy17, 170 adults and children were sheltered/housed for 9,762 nights.
children's services: the organization offers services and programs for children from infancy to 17 years of age. Services are designed to help children heal from trauma. Each child is assessed with evidence-based tools and receive a service plan. Child clients can access the following services: crisis intervention and safety planning; art and play therapy; intensive case management; advocacy with school enrollment and transportation; after-school tutoring; nurturing and parenting education and tween/teen support group. In fy17, 186 children received advocacy services. 75% of parents reported their children are having positive interactions with others after receiving services.
outreach services: the organization offers services and programming to adults and children of domestic violence who were previously sheltered or never sheltered. Outreach clients access the following services: 24-hour hotline, court advocacy, counseling, children's services, education/workshops to promote self-sufficiency, recipients of in-kind donations and information/referrals. Additional services include: community education, rapid rehousing program, donation program and volunteer program. In fy17 2,418 received outreach services, 94% of clients reported increased knowledge of resources. As a result of community speaking engagements, 99% of community members reported they learned new information or acquired a new skill and/or resource that they can use to promote healthy relationships and counteract factors that support violence.
