Mission: To finance, build, manage and operate affordable housing and supportive services for people with special needs to achieve stability and self-sufficiency.
Results: Having a place to call home is the foundation for health and wellness. Because of this belief, Townspeopleopened San Diego’s first permanent supportive housing program in 1994 for people living with HIV/AIDS. In the 27 years since, we have expanded our affordable housing and supportive service portfolio to help ensure everyone in our community has the ability to live a healthy, safe, and dignified life. Townspeople operate 100 units of permanent supportive housing (PSH), an evidence-based program combining rental assistance with right-sized care for households experiencing chronic homelessness. In 2021, 94% of individuals served in our PSH program maintained their housing stability. Ensuring access and affordability are at the core of what we do. With nearly 13% of the population living in poverty, there are too many San Diegans without the resources needed to live a housed and healthy life. With support from Townspeople last year,370 men, women, and children received life-saving services.
