This is one of the most caring, educational, and inviting programs! I adopted my mare from the program nearly two years ago. Being that it was my first horse, my family and I were new to the "horse adoption process". Nina and Charlie were willing to answer any questions that we had throughout the entire adoption process, which is extremely hassle-free! After adopting my mare, I chose to keep her on the farm to train with Nina, who has much knowledge in the field of training horses! Nina is still my trainer to this day, and I frequently volunteer at the farm whenever I get the chance to and learn something new each and every time I visit! The farm and everyone apart of it, are extremely kind and have so much useful knowledge to share about horses and the thoroughbred. We even bring my mare, Faith out occasionally to go for a stress-free swim in their equine swimming pool! All of the horses In the program are Tended to their every need and taken care of to the full extent, to ensure that each and every horse is able to find a new home that meets all of their own specific needs! Whether you are someone looking for their next furry friend, or simply want to help take care of and find wonderful animals new homes, TRRAC is the program for you!!
Nina and Charlie go above and beyond to help out Thoroughbreds in need! Their care is 5 star and they find the right home for each horse that comes through their program. Their volunteer staff and interns are well trained to the needs of each horse. Without a doubt they are very transparent with the adopter that they work with and guarantee success for each placement.
I just adopted Big Prize, TRRAC's slaughter save, from Nina and Charlie. For a horse who has gone through so much, he is the most willing and gentle boy I've ever met, which I totally credit to his first months of rescue and the patient interactions and schooling he was given. When I first called to ask about him, Nina first asked about what I was looking for and my experience with OTTB's before giving an honest disclosure of his life and temperament. Having dealt with other adoption agencies who were not so transparent or thorough, I appreciated this right away because it showed me how important it was to find the right home for him, rather than just any home. Nina told my trainer and I that she believed he needed his own person to bond with and trust, and he's proven her right. In just 6 days of work after we brought him home, he went from needing a half hour of patience before I was able to get on at the mounting block (something they had been working on at TRRAC) to allowing me to mount all by myself without any help. At Nina and Charlie's he was shown that no one was going to push him past his limit and he was not going to be punished for his fears. He transferred that trust to me so quickly, and it makes my heart melt. I am so grateful they chose to save him, and that he chose me as his person.
I’m June 2017, I adopted Aggiornamentos. She has such a teddy bear personality and absolutely the sweetest mare. I cannot thank Nina and Sarah enough for all the helpful information and letting me bring her home. Everything went so smoothly and Nina answered all my questions even after I had brought her home. Also thank you Charlie, for the plaque of her name and shoes..such a memorable experience! Thank you again!
I can't say enough good things about this farm and their program. You will never meet a more knowledgeable, caring and dedicated group of horse people. And despite their extensive experience, they are always happy to take the time to educate those who might be new to horses.
Each of the horses coming through their program are thoroughly evaluated from a health and temperament perspective. They take the time to get to know each horse, training them at the pace the horse needs, taking into account the horse's heath and readiness. Based on the horse's natural talents, limitations, if any, and taking into account the horse's temperament, only then do they match the horse to potential adopters. They want to be sure the new home is a good match for both the horse and rider.
You also won't find a more honest, trustworthy group of people. They fully disclose the horse's known health history, share the details of the care and training they've provided, and are always available for follow up questions and needs.
How do I know all of this - we've known and worked with them for 3 years, the last 2 helping us train our 5 year old gelding. And my daughter just spent the summer volunteering with their program. You won't find a better place to find your future equine partner.
I have volunteered with Nina and Charlie since 2013 and I cannot say enough about the passion, dedication, and care they put into the rehabilitation and adoption of their OTTBs. TRRAC is a fantastic program that thrives on the welfare of its horses. Everyone involved works tirelessly to provide the best care for these horses as possible. The Lyman family take their time to provide their horses with any medical attention or beneficial down time they may need before training them for their new careers. After a thorough evaluation is conducted to determine the best placement into which the horse will happily and successfully thrive, Nina and Charlie work with potential adopters to match their needs with the perfect horse. With years of experience, they work with volunteers to safely and responsibly provide their horses with a variety of experiences. I've personally learned so much for them in the few short years I've been involved. I'm proud to be a part of the TRRAC mission and would highly recommend this program to anyone looking to find their next best friend!
I purchased Talk for Sate through a different party and with a little research found out where she had previously come from. I got in contact with them and Nina was very helpful in giving me tips about Satie and about her race career. I highly recommend them to anyone in the market for a thoroughbred. Nina is as honest as they come !
I adopted my horse, Tuxedo, from TRRAC. Nina was very responsive to my inquiries about him. When she brought him in, he was severely emaciated, but she had him on all the pricey medications and supplements to aid in his recovery. Only the best for her horses! Now, he is a beauty and a very honest and willing jumper. I couldn't be happier with his progress!
Once he was adopted, she told us she was so excited that she could now take in another horse she already had her eye on. There's no time wasted to help horses here!
If you are looking for an awesome place to adopt an OTTB, TRRAC is a great option! I recently adopted a horse from them, So Cozzy. He has been nothing but an angel since he has been with me. Every thing that Nina and Charlie said about him was true. They have great customer service and are honest people. I had no issues at all during the adoption process. They even dropped him off for me. They were a pleasure to work with so I highly recommend to anyone looking!
I adopted my OTTB in January 2017. Nina and Charlie are completely honest in representing the horses. Nina is wonderful to work with anytime I have had a question or need to help Nina is easy to contact and knows the horse inside and out Nina was able to match me with the perfect horse for my lifestyle The adoption process and paperwork was very easy Gio has been everything they said he would be and then some if anyone is looking for an OTTB I recommend Maui Meadow Farm they are exceptional and all the horses are extremely well have cared for happy and loved
From the first day I arrived at TRRAC, I knew it was a very special place. The owners are extremely passionate about the horse they care for and the clients they serve. Their top priority is always what is best for the horses and ensuring each and every horse has the chance for a happy future with a loving home. I'm proud to be a volunteer and highly recommend the facility to anyone looking for their future equine companion
I do not have enough great things to say about TRRAC. Nina, Charlie, and all the volunteers are caring, knowledgeable, and honest. I adopted my Thoroughbred through them. I even boarded him and continued his training with TRRAC because of how trustworthy they are. The distance just became too much from my home. Nina has proved on dozens of occasions that she is always there for Linny and I. She has came and picked him up with no questions asked whenever I needed her. They rehabbed Linny patiently and swam him in their equine therapy pool (wonderful for ALL horses-not just injured). All the horses are treated very well and look amazing all the time. I have not met any other people that care and help as much as TRRAC.
Amazing farm! We donated and got our perfect thororoughbred from here! Nina found us the perfect gelding for our family of 4 and we are truly in love!!!! We will be getting a 2nd boy eventually when we're ready! Much much much recommended!!
