Mission: To administer comprehensive scholarships for college, university or trade school education, as well as providing mentorship, life skills training, and career counseling to eligible young women who have been at risk of harmful traditional practices such as FGM/C and Early Forced Child Marriage.
Results: Since 2016, The S.H.E. College Fund, also known as The Safe House Education (S.H.E.) Fund, has awarded 81 college scholarships to young Maasai women who have been sheltered in safe houses, having fled FGM/C and/or forced marriage as girls. Once they graduate from secondary school, they usually have no choice but to return to their families and again face the risks of FGM/C or forced marriage. The S.H.E. College Fund offers these young women college, university or trade school scholarships, as well as providing essential financial, psychosocial, and academic support. They return to their communities as empowered changemakers, breaking cycles of generational poverty and gender oppression, uplifting their families and communities.
