Programs: The road home dane county owns and operates 30 units of affordable housing with 2 full-time, on-site case managers and an education specialist. The apartments are offered to families who are unable to qualify for any other housing but who have demonstrated an ability to work with case management. Families may stay in the apartments as long as they are in compliance with program and lease agreements or until they are able to be accepted into other community housing. 100% of families that could have reached one year in housing did so.
the road home dane county shelters homeless families with children through the interfaith hospitality network (ihn) shelter program. Volunteers from over 50 participating congregations provide overnight shelter, meals, and evening activities for the families in church and synagogue buildings. Daytime shelter and case management services are provided at our office and day center. Families staying in shelter must work with a case manager to seek housing and employment. Transportation between locations is provided by the organization. Our objective is to serve approximately 20-30 families annually with at least 75% reaching housing. In 2017 the ihn shelter program served 21 families with 89% of families who left shelter successfully moved into housing.
second chance apartment project creates affordable transitional housing throughout dane county through a partnership with the ywca madison and sponsoring organizations. A sponsor helps families experiencing homelessness reach stability by paying their rent and providing mentors trained by the road home. Participating families receive intensive services from the agencies for two years. The number of families this program can help depends on the number of sponsors available. Sponsors, which can include businesses, congregations, or individuals, provide $10,000 a year for two years for a family.
