The Malachi Project/River Refuge is an outstanding non-profit that my family loves to support. We have visited several times to interact with the staff and most importantly, the kids that the organization assists. The kids are taught a sense of community, come together to pray, and important life skills. Ms. Vanessa is awesome. She is a woman of GOD and you feel her love for everyone she comes into contact with. I look forward to helping them as they build a new community center and I know they will have an even greater impact on the community than they already have and my family will continue to support them along the way.
Since I have been a part of this organization it has dramatically changed my life. From the training I received to be able to teach the kids in the program to the leadership staff at the program, it is truly a blessing for the community!
The Malachi Project is a profound organization that is reaching children and changing lives. I have gotten to know them through our Building to Give Back program at Capshaw Development. Pastor Terrell’s testimony is remarkable, and he is making an impact on children and the community of McDonough! I look forward to working with them next year and see all the blessings that is poured over into the children!
Was able to share with the students at dinner and the personalities were unmatched. It was truly a delightful evening of fellowship and laughter. I love to see how the Great news of Jesus Christ is spreading amongst our youth. Awesome job to the Malachi Project!!!
I can’t say enough about this group! The work that is being done is changing lives and helping the youth in our community. All of the volunteers truly take a hands on approach in the community-whether they are working with youth on academics or just visiting neighborhoods checking on folks. Smiling faces and a true love and passion for people and God’s work is what The River Refuge is all about! ❤️
This is a fantastic nonprofit that helps the community in so many ways. The River Refuge touches the local community with grace bags of food weekly, hand delivered to home in the areas that need it most. The River Refuge has an amazing after-school and summer program that invests in students lives by giving them tutoring, trips, instrument and singing lessons, sports and mentoring by their leadership. They also offer mentoring classes for middle and high school students along with financial math. These services are offered to the same families within the community that need the support the most. There outreach is powerful, impactful and is changing the culture of the community by giving families and children the assistance and mentoring they need.
As a teacher and educational volunteer for numerous years within our community the foundation of any organization is key in the process and change in the community. The leaders are wonderful men and women of God that truly believe in their mission and invest their heart, soul and time into making this one of the most impactful missions I have seen touch the lives of children in our community.
Throughout the year my husband and I get the opportunity to donate to this outstanding nonprofit. The work they do with the next generation is so vitally important. Proud to be a part of the community with these outstanding folks!

I have been a part of Malachi Project since 2018. God has blessed this mission from the beginning with His divine providence and care. We are seeing a generational shift in a neighborhood that has been historically downtrodden and in cyclical poverty. Some of the kids that we serve have been part of our family since the beginning, and now we are witnessing them share the gospel with their classmates, defending their faith in Jesus Christ, and standing out as exceptional students in their schools.
Our foundational scripture is Malachi 4:5-6. The heart of this scripture is God's deepest desire to see the hearts of the children reunited with their fathers' hearts. However, the young men and women served by Malachi Project are mostly raised in fatherless homes. Our mandate is to step into the father's role to protect, provide, teach, discipline, encourage, and counsel the next generation. both in spiritual and practical matters.
What great work The River Refuge does in the community. I am so happy to have the opportunity to support this much needed organization for our community. I highly recommend and support this organization. I am so proud of the work they do!
The River Refuge was formed in September 2016 as a Community Development Corporation by Pastor Terrell E. Scott. The Malachi Project originally started in Pastor Terrell Scott's living room, serving the children in the neighborhood. The Malachi Project is one of the ministries under The River Refuge. Our vision is to see the next generation transformed for the glory of God, to impact them in such a way that it transforms their families and community and break the power of generational curses and poverty.
The Malachi Project After School program is going into its fifth year. We have watched the young people that we serve transform from children with attitude and learning problems into leaders in behavior and academics in their school. We have had teachers and the school counselor testify that they can tell which of the children are involved in the Malachi Project. This is such a great testimony to The Malachi Project After School Program.
Our after school program has experienced growth over these past five years. As a
result of this success, we are building a 6,000 sf, 2-story Community Center. We will
house our after school program, mentoring program, computer labs, resource center,
kitchen, and multi-use spaces.
